I have now come to the conclusion that organized team sports,i.e(football, basketball, hockey, soccer) truely brings out the lowest common denominator in people. I would liken it the times of the Romans, where fans at the coliseum ridiculed the losing opponent and hurled insults and and other things to show their contempt of the opposing contender. This has even worked its way down to pee-wee football, and other team sports, where parents fight with other parents over bad calls, young players sit on the sidelines so that ego driven coaches can win, win, win!! We are a nation obsessed with team sports and I am not sure it is healthy.

How ironic this should be posted here this morning. Last night,in a high school football game in Clovis, Ca., Clovis East High School and Redlands of southern California met in a thrilling battle eventually won by Clovis East in overtime 26-20. After the game, the entire Redlands team walked over to the Clovis East sidelines and stood at attention while the CE Alma Mater was played. CE then returned the gesture. This is why I love high school sports. It was a display of sportsmanship that will not soon be forgotten by folks in these parts...especially since Redlands had just suffered a heartbreaking loss. The Redlands players, parents and coaches should be commended. They definitely left an impression on the Clovis community with their classy post-game actions.

Look at the upside. It keeps parents and kids from having to face their academic failures. They can concentrate on sports to fill the voids in their uneducated heads.
