5 GOP candidates commit to Baltimore debate (No Fred, Rudy McRomney, but there are Hunter and Paul)
Baltimore Sun ^ | 09/22/2007 | David Nitkin

Just five Republican candidates - half the invited field - will take part in Thursday's presidential debate in Baltimore, event organizers said yesterday.

The four leading contenders, Rudolph W. Giuliani, John McCain, Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson, have each said they will not participate in the forum focusing on issues facing minority voters. Their absence has drawn the ire of Tavis Smiley, the talk-show host who is moderating and organizing the debate at Morgan State University; he said the candidates are making a mistake in not reaching out to black voters.

A list of confirmed participants released yesterday also omits Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado, a staunch opponent of current immigration policy. Confirmed are Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Alan L. Keyes of Maryland, Rep. Duncan Hunter of California and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, organizers said.

Also yesterday, former Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele, the chairman of GOPAC, a Republican political action committee, said in a statement that he was "hopeful" each missing candidate would "adjust his schedule" to participate.

****I hope we have video later of the leftwing mayor vs. the friends of liberty on that little boat ride.***

If we do, I doubt if Rudy will be able to flash the fake smile that he has for when the tv cameras are on him.

Why should RasterMaster have to document it?

Because it's nothing more than slander unless he does so. i still await proof of that accusation, yet know that none of you Paulitrolls are going to produce proof, you're content to lie about the man and his record.

FReepers already know the answer. How about a FReeper opinion poll, instead?

Because a lie is a lie, no matter who believes it, or how many people believe it. Most people in the world once believed that the Earth was flat, and that the Earth was the center of the universe, both false. RasterMaster's slander of Ron Paul was just that...slander

FReepers rely on PROOF, not opinion.

See? i can ping JimRob too. Happy now? You can shove your pathetic attempt at intimidation someplace safe where you can retrieve it for somebody who actually worries about stuff like that. Jim probably has better things to do than get involved with your little p!$$!ng contest.

Ok, I stand corrected. For some reason Howard stood out in my mind.

I am stating that no government, state or federal, has the authority, legal or otherwise, to kill any innocent human being.
That is true, and also moot. Government is not aborting babies. Private abortionists are. The Constitution is a contract between the government and the people. Just as the 1st Amendment protects you from government censoring your speech, the forum administrator on Free Republic — a private website — is not bound by that and can censor and delete your comments, and even ban you from the site. Do you understand the difference? Government is not performing abortions in abortion clinics or deleting posts on Free Republic. Private citizens are. Roe v. Wade stated that government cannot prohibit the free exercise of abortion by the people, which does not conflict in any way with government being prohibited from administering them.
Federalism is not equal to states' rights.
Not by itself, but it is a central component.

He might have an issue dealing with “posse comitas ??) and sending the troops to the border. The American military is not supposed to be used to enforce domestic laws.

i don't know how Ron Paul would look at such a thing, and i don't presume to speak for him. But for myself, i'd be hard pressed to see border security as a strict civilian law enforcement matter. Therefore i am not certain that Posse Comitatus applies in this particular case. At any rate, Posse Comitatus, while derived from our history and experience, is not an explicit constitutional principle. It can probably be derived from the constitution. It can be and has been altered by congress in the history of it's existence. It could easily be altered again at need.

Bills are often misleading. Congresscritters often attach a bunch of garbage to them. This used to be particularly nasty with "civil rights" legislation. After all, who'd vote against civil rights, eh?

Ron Paul’s words and deeds provide the evidence. The only question now is what does the jury think? I think a lot of FReepers would be interested in voicing their opinion on whether or not Ron Paul’s statements and positions are tantamount to slander of the troops. Suggesting we find out is not intimidation.

Sorry for coming across so harsh.

There was a shooting at DSU overnight Thursday night/Friday morning and because, like Howard, it is an historically black college there have been a tremendous amount of racist comments made in reference to it.

I used to live in Dover, where DelState is located, both my husband and I took classes there, and I also had many business related reasons to be on the campus on a regular basis. It’s kind of a touchy subject for me at the moment.

Again, my apologies for coming across the wrong way.

As I already explained, I’m not talking about his half dozen supporters here, I’m talking about the ones behind the concerted effort to spam all the online polls, blogs, and YouTube comments on behalf of Ron Paul. As it turns out, these efforts are being directed primarily from a neo-nazi website.

Which has exactly zero evidence value.

Post your proof or retract.

Translation: I got called on my stupid statement, and have nothing to back it up.The only question now is what does the jury think?

Learn the expression Objection! Presumes as fact matters not in evidence.

Post your evidence. or retract the accusation.

I am not sure of the origin of Posse Comitatus, but I thought it was constitutional. We tend to focus on the Bill of Rights, but there are a lot of other things in the Constitution. The founders were definitely against a standing Federal army available for use by the executive branch. Since illegal immigration is definitely a border issue, Posse Comitatus might not apply.

Bills are often misleading. Congresscritters often attach a bunch of garbage to them. This used to be particularly nasty with “civil rights” legislation. After all, who’d vote against civil rights, eh?

Correct, I was only offering the Posse Comitatus argument as one possible reason for RP voting against the national guard on the borders. RP supporters know he is against illegal immigration, so these votes don’t bother us. They were not in any way a vote to encourage illegal immigration or to be even lax on illegal immigration.

I didn’t make the charge, I merely agree with it.
I really feel no interest in Googling Ron Paul’s debate remarks. I know what I saw and most people here also saw the debates and know what they saw too. We all saw a man who dishonors the service of men and women fighting and dying in Iraq and Afghanistan.

As i thought, no evidence, mere slander.

***Sorry for coming across so harsh.***

I didn’t look at it that way. I made a mistake. Howard is the most famous “black” university on the east coast.

***There was a shooting at DSU overnight Thursday night/Friday morning and because, like Howard, it is an historically black college there have been a tremendous amount of racist comments made in reference to it.

I used to live in Dover, where DelState is located, both my husband and I took classes there, and I also had many business related reasons to be on the campus on a regular basis. It’s kind of a touchy subject for me at the moment.***

I lived in Newark, De. for about 15 years and used to direct bridge tournaments in Dover. Which makes it a bit more unusual that I would make that mistake.

I have been following the story about the shootings at Del. State for the last couple days. But for some reason, I was still thinking about Howard, probably because it is the most famous predominately black university around that area.

****Again, my apologies for coming across the wrong way.****

While I appreciate your comments, I didn’t take it that way. I don’t mind being corrected on a mistake. It is certainly not as bad as the Paul haters around here calling us RP supporters neo-nazis, cut and runners, traitors, etc.

Good questions!

I keep getting the impression that Fred is hiding behind the skirts of Federalism whenever it suits him.

"So, do you think that the people in Ron Paul's district are ignorant or stupid?"

Only stupid or ignorant people answer stupid or ignorant questions.

The people in his district have a chance for change towards a candidate who doesn't blame America for Islamic hate. This clown has to go, and all others who think like him.

"You think any of Paul’s supporters will even watch this debate, considering that it turns out most of them are neo-nazis?"

Half of them will watch Star Trek, and the other half Jerry Springer reruns.
