Daily Kos: General Petraeus Wore Fraudulent Medal
Via OrbusMax.com - Little Green Footballs ^ | 9/21/07

Tonight at Daily Kos, the new mainstream voice of the Democratic Party, they’ve found a new angle from which to attack General Petraeus: Hey, MoveOn! Petraeus Wore Fraud Medal At Testimony.

Examining General Petraeus’s medals, his official bios and then comparing three reports of events on 3/30/2003 in Najaf, Iraq - two by prize-winning embedded journalists and one understood to be by Army personnel (which document this diarist will produce to a responsible party at any time) - this diarist cannot conclude other than that General David Petraeus wore a medal for combat valor in his testimony before Congress that was a sham, propaganda and a dishonor to his troops and nation.

I will be extremely surprised if there is anything to these charges, but it’s not my area of expertise, so LGF military lizards—please weigh in.

Come on everyone...lets just let this go.

For the record, I don’t think Boorda was a bad man. He was flawed. He might not have been the best CNO, but he certainly wasn’t the worst.

I do retain harsh condemnation for certain people who have brought dishonor upon the Naval Service...John Kerry;John Walker, and the like. I feel that way about Duke Cunningham as well, but in a different way.

Adm. Boorda is dead. Let’s let him rest in peace.

NOPE. i personally know of at least one O-1 who was awarded the GCM upon being directly commissioned, after only 10 MONTHS of honorable service.

WO's in the army warrant officer flight program sometimes (i'm NOT sure about ALL of the time) received the GCM at the same time as they received their warrants, with about a YEAR of total enlisted service.

Basic was two months, and AIT was two months ~ that's FAR LESS TIME than that ten months you cite.

Only award I recall that got handed out early in your career as a trainee was the National Defense Service Medal. I got my Good Conduct after I'd been out of active duty for about a year although my final orders (after two years of service) said I'd gotten it. Apparantly it had simply not been sent to me for some reason.

Looking at the criteria for the National Defense Service Medal I suspect the folks at Fort McClellan were in error when they started awarding it to NG and Reservists (summer 1967).

"basic was two months & AIT was two months" =====> SORRY, but MANY MOS require MUCH more than TWO MONTHS, especially in the "technical specialties".

further, in this case the LT was "black-birding" after airborne training & i think Physical Security & CBR (now NBC, unless they've changed the abbreviation AGAIN!!!) schools.

fyi, i personally KNOW that the 2LT lawfully received the GCM, as we "checked" his 201 file to ASSURE that he was actually entitled to wear it. fyi, he WAS so entitled.

fyi, "wikipedia" is NOT an ACCEPTABLE source (absent other INDEPENDENT proof) on ANY subject that is more important than whether some "hollywierd trollop" wears underpants, or more likely does NOT.

Interesting read...Re the Daily Kos. I found this quite interesting also from the Wikipedia site re: that website

Jimmy Carter, John Kerry, Barbara Boxer, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, and many other Democratic senators, congressmen, governors, and candidates now post there regularly. The site now has more than 125,000 registered members.

"No one with a resume’ like that needs to wear a phoney award."

Exactly! I'd lay a hundred bucks that Petraeus has even more awards that he is entitled to wear, but doesn't. I'd also lay a hundred bucks that the person making the accusation has never been in combat. If they're like the rest of the anti-war "veterans", they were little behind the lines clerks or peons. I'd like to get in one of these suckhole's faces and ask them how many awards THEY have, or Hillary has. Since she wants to be CIC, she should have shown some semblance of respect for the military. Her attack on the general to please her masters at DK and Move On should absolutely doom her as a serious candidate.

this diarist cannot conclude

The problem is most diarists on KOS and DU extent of military knowledge comes from what they learned on their PS3.

I remember a few years ago there was some report of a shooting and they didn't believe it because they said they knew for a fact the gun in question couldn't inflict that damage. How did they know this? They posted some information from a video game's instruction manual. I am not kidding. I think there was even a DUmmy FUnny on this one.

No doubt several individuals have decorations they did not earn. My understanding is that LBJ was awarded a Silver Star for a mission he never took part in.

I am convinced that the main thing that distinguishes some award recipients from other soldiers is how their recommendation for award was written (and what sort of mood the approval authority was in when they reviewed the form 689).

The award is retro to 2001 and it is awarded to “any soldier”, which would include generals I imagine. http://www.army.mil/symbols/combatbadges/Action.html “In 2003, Petraeus, then a major general, commanded the 101st Airborne Division during V Corps’s drive to Baghdad. In a campaign chronicled in detail by Rick Atkinson of the Washington Post’s book In the Company of Soldiers, Petraeus led his division through the battles of Karbala, Hilla, and Najaf (where he came under fire during an ambush by Iraqi paramilitary forces).”

Just thought I repost your post in case any of the scumballs from Kos missed it -

I had no idea of Petraeus’ resume. Thank God we have men like this fighting to keep us safe. And thank God the liberals are not in charge. At least for now. I don’t think I’d be able to sleep thinking about Hillary “commanding” a hero like Petraeus.
