It's all Hillary all the time on Sunday. All five main shows serve up the presumptive nominee and first female president (depending on your definition of "female") Her Thighness, Hillary (sometimes) Rodham (sometimes) Clinton. I half expect her to break into song...
I'm Hillary the first I am
Hillary the first I am, I am
I got married to the lecher next door
He's been cheating on me evermore
And every one wasn't Hillary (Hillary)
He would gladly wave his willy for a glam (oh glam)
I'm his beard, old man, I'm Hillary
Hillary the first I am
Second term same as the first ...
OK, so I won't make it as a lyricist...
NBC Meet The Press is first up in my area and Lil' Timmah balances out Hillary's likely Bush bashing with Alan Greenspan, author of a new autobiography that bashes Bush... wait... yeah, that's what they're doing all right. Do you wonder if Mr. Andrea Mitchell will be asked what he knew about Mrs. Plame-Wilson and when did he know it? Somehow I doubt it. And do you think that the name Hsu will come up with Hillary? On any of these shows? If it does it will only be in the most respectful and protective sort of way, with ample opportunity for Her Thighness to explain how it's all Karl Rove's fault. And it's a virtual certainty that Stan Lee and Peter Paul won't be mentioned. Perish the thought.
CBS Face The Nation has Ol' Bob basking in Hillary's glory. He's joined by Politico's John Harris and the New York Times' David Sanger to help explain why McChimpy Bushitler is being so mean and nasty about not surrendering in Iraq, thus leaving a disaster for his saintly successor. There's a lot of "it's inevitable" at play this weekend, not only with Madam President Hillary but also presumptions of huge gains for the Dhimmicrats in the '08 House and Senate races. Harris particularly will bring that theme out on CBS, I think. Me thinks they're getting a bit ahead of themselves.
Fox News Sunday touts their installment of Hillaryfest '07 with reminders of the infamous Bill Clinton interview by Mike Wallace's boy, Chris. Do you think he has the cajones to ask some inconvenient questions of Hillary? My impression since the Bill Clinton interview is that Wallace is going out of his way to appease the Fox News critics. I've suspected for some time that he's auditioning for a lateral move, perhaps into Ol' Bob's chair at FTN or, dare he dream, as the Perky One's replacement when she finishes her disastrous tenure at CBS. Two weeks ago I lamented that ABC This Week had specifically brought out John Kerry to "respond" to John McCain on their show and stated that I didn't expect the shows to offer up a Republican response for any Democrats. Well, perhaps the folks at FNS were watching, because this week they've done just that. Of course, in Newt Gingrich they're offering up one of the most vocal critics of the Bush administration and someone who regularly praises Hillary and goes out of his way to work with her on things like Hillarycare. I should have known. It is interesting to me that they seem to have set this up as part of their round table segment. Do you suppose Brit (the reporter the left loves to hate) Hume might do a Newt smack down? Or might Newt be tempted to play a round of smack-a-Juan? I'll probably be disappointed by the whole exercise, but I plan to watch, just in case. They round out the show with Ken Burns, on to tout his latest PBS documentary, this time about World War II. The subject should lend itself to comparisons that are very unfavorable for the critics of the Iraq war, but those will no doubt be ignored, while some unfavorable comparisons between GWB and FDR will likely be manufactured. It'll still probably be interesting.
CNN Late Edition is apparently concentrating on Hillary's health care plan version 2.0 in their homage to their glorious leaderess, and following up with HHS Secretary Michael Leavitt, no doubt destined for abuse on the administration's dismal health care record. Have any of you ever heard of this guy before? He's certainly not a name I'm familiar with. The fact that the press has stayed away from him either means that he's a non-entity and there's really nothing interesting there or he's a very effective advocate for Bush's policies so they're avoiding him like the plague. I'm betting it's the former, but I'll hope for the latter. CNNs favorite RINO, Chuck Hagel, then joins in, likely for some remedial Bush bashing and perhaps as an audition for a regular pundit gig when his term ends next year. Moving on to foreign policy the French FM will be asked to explain why he dared mention the word "war" when talking about Iran without the EU required statement about never considering it. And then they trot out the man who gave us "peace in Vietnam," Hank Kissinger (with only a few million slaughtered by his "partners in peace"), along with the godfather of the glorious Khomeni regime in Iran, Zbiggy Brezinski (may a thousand IEDs go boom). These two are the brains behind the foreign policy positions of John McCain and Barack Obama, respectively. Truly frightening.
ABC This Week provides the spectacle of Incurious George Steponallofus pretending to do an interview with his lord and mistress, the presumptive Queen Hillary the first. Edward R. Murrow and Walter Winchell must be drowning their despair in celestial beer. Their roundtable looks particularly vile, with E. J. Dionne leading the pack. The inclusion of David Brooks, the supposed conservative from the NY Times, indicates that they're going out of their way to push Hillarycare v 2.0, as he's a "conservative" who has given it qualified praise. ABC also talks to Ken Burns about his new documentary. You don't suppose he has some US Navy memos word processor files about how George H. W. Bush lied about his service in World War II?
The Saturday shows offer the usual mix of inside the beltway conventional wisdom and Wall Street actual wisdom. The Beltway Boys serve up DNC talking points on the dismal state of the Bush economy, trying to sell the notion of an impending recession. They haven't been interested in the economy for the last 6 years because it was the most successful in decades. Now that the "creative financing" made popular by Clinton era financial policies (thank you Robert Rubin) is coming apart they see an opportunity to bash Bush, therefore "it's the economy, stupid," once again. They then segue to the '08 presidential race with a catfight between Hillary and the macho Edwards, Elizabeth. The Edward's camp is whining that team Clinton stole their health care plan and what better spokesperson than their built in victim. Hillary's people wouldn't dare criticize Elizabeth because she's dying, you know. CNBC's Tim Russert Show is touting the updated version of Tom Friedman's book, The World is Flat as a way to expound on the evils of the Bush era. Fox News Watch abandons all pretense of paying attention to serious issues of media malfeasance and concentrates instead on Orenthal James Simpson. Earth shattering. Finally the grown ups show up on Journal Editorial Report and I really want to try and watch this one. They're talking about, among other things, Ahmadinejad's New York trip and joining the conversation is none other than John Bolton, he of the great mustache and even greater resolve. Should be fun.
The themes of Hillaryfest '07 seem to revolve around how great version 2.0 of her health care plan is and how bad the world is because of McChimpy Bushitler. I gather that this is the mission for the week and what they see as their path back to the White House. In effect Hillary is claiming the mantle of the foregone conclusion and trying to ignore her Dhimmicrat rivals. There are divided loyalties within the dinosaur media so some of her erstwhile allies may put up more fight than she likely hopes for. All of the DBM is supporting Dhimmicrats, but it will be interesting to see if any lines are drawn within that realm by folks supporting someone other than Hillary.
Team Clinton is trying to run a campaign according to the old rules, with emphasis on old media, TV appearances and advertising, union endorsements and phone banks and a classic political machine. Richard Daley, LBJ, Huey Long and boss Pendergast would all recognize the tone and structure of Hillary's campaign. But is this type of campaign good enough for the first real 21st century election? The two Bush victories in 2000 and 2004 were really 20th century events, carryovers from the previous decade's politics. This election is a clean break, with no real incumbent in either party. Just what are the rules this time? I agree with Bill Kristol that this election may break all of the rules and deny all of the conventional wisdom. It will be interesting to see and even more interesting to participate this time around.
This should be cross posted to my blog at Wizards.townhall.com later today.
This thread exists primarily as a heads up for who is on the weekend talks shows, what they've been invited on to push (based on their recent pronouncements) and the spin (meme) the DBM is likely trying to push based on that information. All of this is prep work for the weekly Sunday Morning Talk Show thread posted by Alas Babylon!. That thread provides a live commentary and analysis of the Sunday talking head shows, with valuable insight and exceptional fact checking. we are the Jedi Council of FreeRepublic, at least in regards to these DBM gabfests. You wanna know what was said and what it meant, as well as where they messed up? Read that thread!
Mark Kilmer has posted his excellent preview of the Sunday shows over at Redstate.COM.

http://wizards.townhall.com/
Here's a sample of my usually witty commentary...
... It's all Hillary all the time on Sunday. All five main shows serve up the presumptive nominee and first female president (depending on your definition of "female") Her Thighness, Hillary (sometimes) Rodham (sometimes) Clinton. I half expect her to break into song... <snip> ... OK, so I won't make it as a lyricist...
<snip>
... But is this type of campaign good enough for the first real 21st century election? ...

Should we have a pool tomorrow guessing how many times the word “Hsu” will be mentioned?

I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS HILLARY FEST. THEY ARE TRYING TO SHOVE HER AND THIS SOCIALIST HEALTHCARE RIGHT DOWN OUR THROATS.
I AM INCENSED. (Can you tell?)
Back to study the thread.

the name Hsu will either be mentioned little or not at all, or it will be inserted in every other sentence, with a snide joke attached to diminish it’s impact.
What I find interesting is that he insisted on meeting with the FBI without his lawyer in the last few days. His lawyer, a prominent leftist/Dhimmicrat (he prosecuted Casper Weinberger for Iran/Contra “offenses” and defended American Taliban John Walker Lindhe) is no doubt in the pay of either Team Clinton or the PLA. I wonder what Hsu offered up during his interview with the FBI? I wonder if he’ll live to see trial?

Phsstpok, a comment on Redstate says that The Politico indicates that all of Hillary’s interviews were pre-taped. Can you believe it!!!!
No one gets treatment like this...NO ONE!
They want this to be a damn coronation.

I was going to save this comment for the live thread, but I think someone should demand equal time here. This is not a bona-fide newscast and is not exempt if I’m not mistaken.

I hope all the Sunday Talk Shows get the lowest audience ratings ever—not that it would matter for the agenda-driven, and obnoxiously biased drive-bys.
Should we start a pool for the number of times the name, “Norman Hsu,” is mentioned?

Have any of you ever heard of this guy before? [Michael Leavitt]
))))))
Yes, but what I just learned recently is that the department of Health and Human Services has 67000 employees. That is almost twice as many as the State Dept.
I want to know what all these employees are doing?
