I have no problem with this tactic.

Our guys should get medals when they think up better ways to kill more terrorists.

This technique was stolen from New Yorkers. We used to leave our cars on the Long Island Expressway after dark.... 8~)

Hey it is a good plan. If it was me I would plant a bug on the stuff and pay a visit to the building it travels to.

How about if the bait is covered?

A few dollars in a bag under a table would draw “hilaries” like flies are drawn to dirty Hsu’s!

I may need to go back to the warfare rule book. I missed the section on whether this method was legal or not.

Sounds like a problem to me. How do know that the suspect intended to use the items at all, or against Coalition forces?

Yes, I'm sure when a 8 year wanders near by, they squeeze off a shot and mark off a notch on their sniper rifle

These traps are not put in place outside active elementary schools. They are laid in area were IED builders go for “supplies”. Old Iraqi army ammo dumps are off limits. Placing ordnance in areas under observation is bringing the rats to the cheese. Picking it up and attempting to leave a prohibited area with it is evidence of intent and makes the perp a legal target... Stay out of prohibited areas, leave bomb making material alone and no foul. Enter and scavage for prohibited items and get penalized.

since most Iraqi houses out in the bondocks have at least one AK-47 and ammo, there is no reason for a kid to go out and pick up some blasting caps and primacord or wire.

First of all, the kids wouldn’t know what to do with it so they wound not pick it up, esp. if it were near any Army base.

Secondly, since there is a lot of old war garbage lying around Iraq, and some of it is extremely dangerous, a parent would tell their kids to stay away from anything that even looks strange or like a weapon/ammo on the ground.

My son spent time marking Gulf War I ordnance he and his unit found in Iraq so that no one would get hurt.

Iraq is the biggest armaments depot in the world so only those savy as to what they are looking for on the ground, would go out and take it. Then, POW, one less terrorist.
I’ve seen films of this and our guys take a lot of care to make sure that they have a legitimate target.

And who is this FIDEL? Never heard of him. Does he have a beard?

Secondly, since there is a lot of old war garbage lying around Iraq, and some of it is extremely dangerous, a parent would tell their kids to stay away from anything that even looks strange or like a weapon/ammo on the ground.

The same parents might remove loose weapons or ammo, in order to remove a hazard to the neighborhood.

Targets? Not enough information from the article to answer that question.

The Leftist on the other side of my cubical wall yesterday was discussing this with his cube mate. He was spewing filth I’m sure he heard on AirAmerica on his drive in, saying that “Our soldiers are shooting anyone going after the bait, innocent or not, even women and children”.

I can tell you what I really wanted to do at that moment but I need my job.
