WASHINGTON - U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez of Florida, who took over as the first Hispanic chairman of the Republican National Committee earlier this year with a pledge to reach out to minorities, is expected to resign the post early next year.

Martinez's decision comes as his party is receiving increasing criticism for ignoring -- or castigating -- minority groups, often while criticizing an immigration-reform package that Martinez, along with President Bush, supported. Why is the republican party so worried about losing the illegal alien vote?
Anyone see a problem here?

Newt suggested that a better way to oppose the Democrats on immigration is to push for English only as the official language. He said that this has almost 100% support of the voters and Hillary opposes it.

Why is Martinez holding on until next year? He should be gone yesterday!
He is a disaster for the GOP, and we knew he would be fronm the beginning. He is a major reason RNC donations are in the toilet. I know I won't donate a cent until he's long gone.
If Steele were in charge, the GOP would be cruising at full throttle. But then, the GOP didn't get the moniker of the "Stupid Party" for nothing!
