The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday Rudy Giuliani back on top in the race for the Republican Presidential Nomination. Twenty-five percent (25%) of Likely Primary Voters say they will vote for the former Mayor of New York City while 23% support Fred Thompson. Mitt Romney is the top choice for 14% while John McCain slipped back into single digits at 9%. Mike Huckabee earns the vote from 6% (see recent daily numbers).
Polling over the past three weeks has shown a clear decline in support for Thompson, but its not clear that Fred is fizzling. As noted last week, the GOP race is getting murkier.
A recent commentary by Douglas Schoen helps explain why Rasmussen Reports shows a closer race for the nomination than some other polls that focus on interviews with all adults. Dick Morris also touches on this subject in a recent column.
In the race for the Democratic Presidential Nomination. Clinton attracts 42% support followed by Barack Obama at 26%. John Edwards is at 12% and Bill Richardson is a distant fourth with 4% support from Likely Democratic Primary Voters (see recent daily numbers). Obamas support steadily declined from April through August, stabilized in September, and may have begun to turnaround this month. Clinton remains the frontrunner but the former First Ladys nomination is not inevitable.

The Stop Rudy ping list!
E-mail/ping me if you want on/off the list! SPREAD THE WORD!!!
Rudy911 and Fred STILL neck-and-neck among likely voters. Can anyone stop the party from a giant leap leftward from which there is no return (Rudy911)???
Huckabee is doing much much better than I expected. Who knows he may catch on fire?
It’s great when you have so many options you can’t decide which one to stick with.
Sorry about that, you were talking about tonight, football vs baseball, not tomorrow night, debate vs baseball. My bad.
I guess it wouldn’t make much sense for Mitt to overly focus on Thompson when Rudy is still the front runner.
I keep waiting to see if he is the one that gets the vaunted Dobson endorsement.
Matthews can’t stand it when he’s not in control.
Has anybody seen those ads showing Romney speaking when he was running for first Senate and then Governor of Mass. Pretty devastating stuff. Coming from his own mouth. Pro abortion, anti gun, anti Reagan etc. Do all Mass. politicians do flip flops? One position for Mass. office and another for National office?
The problem is that he’ll bleed Conservative contenders. He’s a spendaholic, though. Huckabee is anything BUT a fiscal Conservative.
All he can do is bleed SoCons from Fred and Mitt.
Huckabee has nothing to lose by verbally jabbing a red hot poker into Chris Matthews’s fat ass. Remember how he went after nutter Ron Paul? Assuming he gets first dibs to go after Matthews, he’s my best prediction on who lays the smack down on Chrissiepoo.
Damn...not even a college FB game is scheduled.
Fred better take his Geritol tomorrow. Every word out of his mouth and his entire perfromance will be dissected.
I’m not against converts, if they have a record to back it up. The last two years in MA redeemed Mitt in my eyes. Rudy911 still supports Liberal policies like Hate Crimes Legislation, Abortion on Demand, and Gun Grabbing.
Heck, Rudy even had to apologize at CPAC for opposing school vouchers.
Fred is going to be attacked, attacked, and attacked some more. I suspect that by the time debate coverage is over, the pundits will have spend more time bashing Fred than any Democrat all year.
We already know what the analysts will say - they are committed, unrepentant Rudophiles. Fred is going to have to speak around them like Reagan did, and directly to we the people.
We already know that they will ONLY laud Rudy911, and lavish him with "'Atta Boy"s and sing his praises as savior. And we know what they are already planning to do to Fred. We need to keep this in mind from this moment on.
I don’t believe Romney is a convert. I think he started tacking to the right in the latter part of his administration in preparation for what he is trying to “buy” right now. As far as Fred is concerned, I am still undecided. The one thing I question is why a guy his age would want to have a young babe wife and two crumb snatchers. Sounds a little masochistic to me.
Yep.
FR better get busy campaigning against Republicans even harder, we need to get that number to about 30 pts down.
Dobson is not going to endorse anyone for president. He is just saying who he WON’T.
