As 1968 began I was confronted with the choice of being drafted into the Army or joining the Marine Corps for two years. Somewhat reluctantly, for until that date I never considered becoming a Marine, I joined the Corps. My period of service was completely unremarkable, and I left the Corps with the exalted rank of corporal.
Forty years later I am thankful to God that I made the decision I did, especially when I read about the actions of Marines such as Peter Pace.
Semper Fi, General Pace.
