Obama’s Gospel Tour:Ex-gay Donnie McClurkin to tour with Barack Obama
NYTimes - The Caucus ^ | October 19, 2007 | Sarah Wheaton

As religious conservatives gather in Washington this weekend for the “Values Voters Summit,” Senator Barack Obama’s campaign announced its latest effort to attract people of faith to the campaign: a gospel concert tour. All three of the dates of the “Embrace the Change” tour are in South Carolina, where Mr. Obama is locked in battle with Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton for black voters. Gospel acts including Mary Mary, Donnie McClurkin and Hezekiah Walker, Byron Cage and the Mighty Clouds of Joy are scheduled to appear. “This is another example of how Barack Obama is defying conventional wisdom about how politics is done and giving new meaning to meeting people at the grassroots level,” Joshua DuBois, the campaign’s religious affairs director, said in a release. “This concert tour is going to bring new people into the political process and engage people of faith in an unprecedented way.” We checked in with Nate Chinen, a music critic for The Times, for his take on the lineup. “I think this tour falls in line with what we know about Obama’s religious history as well as his need to energize a base/community rooted in faith,” he said. “In someone like Hezekiah Walker you have a spiritual leader as well as an artist, and in Donnie McClurkin you have someone who overcame great adversity to become a role model. And of course with the Mighty Clouds of Joy, you have music royalty.” “And there’s a bonus,” Mr. Chinen added. “The music is undeniably great.” The tour stops in Charleston on Oct. 26, in Greenwood on Oct. 27 and in Columbia on Oct. 28, with tickets going for $10.

Check out what Donnie McClurkin when through growing up(rape, drugs, family deaths): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donnie_McClurkin#Early_years

Check out what his views are with regard dealing with his sexuality: McClurkin has spoken out against homosexuality on several occasions. He states that homosexuality is a spiritual issue, from which one can be delivered from by the power and grace of God. In his book, Eternal Victim, Eternal Victor (ISBN 1-56229-162-9), he writes: "The abnormal use of my sexuality continued until I came to realize that I was broken and that homosexuality was not God's intention... for my masculinity."[6] He then describes himself as going through a process by which he became "a saved and sanctified man". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donnie_McClurkin#Views_on_sexuality

Then read what the liberals in the comment section have to say: """Donnie McClurkin is a self-hating gay who thinks gays can be cured by religion. If these are the kind of people Obama wants to pander to, he won’t get my vote."""

"""The fact that he will take the stage with a person who condemns gay people and claims that that can and should be changed through prayer and the fact that so many here thing that fighting gay rights is a positive moral endeavor, does it for me."""

This was originaly drug up by far-left americablog. The comment section is interesting: Obama to do gospel tour with radical right singer who crusades against "the curse of homosexuality" http://www.americablog.com/2007/10/obama-to-do-gospel-tour-with-radical.html

Donnie McClurkin has done events with both republicans(RNC convention) and democrats(Bill Clinton I think)

Wow, Obama is going to really ruffle some of the feathers of the radical gay lobby which now controls the Democratic party. Obama would be better off touring with Hitler than an ex-gay in the eyes of Democrats. I bet Obama quietly distances himself from McClurkin.

When will the liberals charge Obama with trying to install a Theocracy?

And the only time “separation of church and state” is mentioned is in a comment. A convenient phrase for use at opportune times.

Thanks for the POST, and signs pointing us to a road less traveled. Sounds like Hillary better start shaking down a few more Hollywood Role Models and get some more CASH to out pace this swell in the tsunami that appears to be in the formation.

Hollywood cash is going to be in short supply if the threatened strike comes to pass.

I think there’s more in play here than the homosexual issue. Remember, this is the party that demagogues religion constantly. What Obama is doing here is going to tick of the homosexual lobby and the anti-Christian lobby, of which a major portion of the demcrat party seems to be composed of.

The left won't be ticked off. They know Obama is pulling the wool over gullable eyes.

Donnie is an amazing singer.

“We Fall Down” gets me every time I hear it.

For folks not familiar with his work, you can listen to tracks here (you have to download the Rhapsody player, but it’s free):

Donnie McClurkin sounds like an alright guy to have rejected the unhealthy homosexual lifestyle. It will be fun to watch the fireworks as the liberal activists try to demonize him for improving his life.

I hope McClurkin turns some of them (gays) around and puts the screws to the really evil ones. The LBGT needs to be told to their face, every time, and in no uncertain terms: The Black Community does not buy into the Gay Agenda. Not one cent, not one microsecond. And we never will. The Leftists can not “educate” us because we have seen the destruction homosexuality has caused (”women and minorities hit hardest”; that may be whimsical, but it’s true in this case). We’ve seen too much damage the “down-low” brothers cause. And it’s not about love. It’s about sex; raw animalistic sex. No, we won’t bow to the LBGT as some sort of fellow or superior “oppressed minority”.
