UPDATE: The city of Malibu is advising residents in Puerco Canyon to begin evacuating due to a wildfire driven by powerful winds. This area is north of Pacific Coast Highway and about 1 mile west of Pepperdine University. Residents along the beach on Malibu Road may soon be evacuated. Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Kanan-Dume Road and Topanga Canyon. Residents are advised to head to the west. Evacuation centers are being set up in the Zuma Beach area.

A wildfire driven by powerful winds in the Malibu Hills this morning threatened a university, destroyed at least one home and forced the evacuation of hundreds more, authorities said.

They’re saying potentially 48 hours, going into very late Wednesday and early Thursday...but since our nights aren’t calming down windwise like they should be, that may mean Wednesday night still high winds, too.

They’re showing Rancho Santa Fe burning live now on KFMB for those in the area. Fairbanks Ranch has many structures engulfed.

Prayers for them at this time, and will continue through the night and tomorrow. Please let us all know when you get word.

Please give your wife a big hug, and assure her that God is going to protect your children. Bless your hearts!

I am not far from Wilsonville. We did not have as bad a time as parts south. Long term power outages. You were probably safer staying here than being on the road, but what a drive you had. Whew.

ROFL. Always good to see ya COUNT.

Eyes are getting heavy. I really must shut down and give up following the tornado warnings on the other window.

Probably catch up with you tomorrow sometime.

Chula Vista evacuations
Posted @ 10:06 PM
Chula Vista remains on alert after issuing an evacuation order for the Bella Lago community.

The city also has issued non-mandatory evacuation advisories for the Woods at EastLake, some areas of San Miguel Ranch and some areas of Rolling Hills Ranch.

About 150 evacuees are taking shelter at the Community Youth Center gymnasium on the Chula Vista High School campus, 465 L Street. Many people have been dropping off food, but there’s a continuing need for sleeping bags and mats.

The Sweetwater Union High School District will provide evacuees with breakfast Tuesday morning and the Chula Vista Elementary School District will provide lunch.

Chula Vista residents who want updates on the fire situation can call (619) 397-6399 to hear recorded messages.

Witch Creek fire could near Santee
Posted @ 9:26 PM
Santee Mayor Randy Voepel said city officials were closely monitoring the progress of a finger of the Witch Creek fire north of El Capitan Reservoir. Voepel said he planned to meet with other officials Tuesday morning to reassess the direction of the wind and consider how it would affect the fire’s course.

Meanwhile, county spokesman Mike Workman said a report of a fire in the Tierrasanta area was unfounded.

Voluntary evacuation in place for all of Del Mar
Posted @ 9:14 PM
A dispatch from the city of Del Mar’s web site: “For your safety, we are strongly advising that all Del Mar residents evacuate.” A mandatory evacuation remains in place for eastern Del Mar.

Residents were told to go north to El Toro High School at 25255 Toledo Way, Lake Forest.

Those who need help leaving are told to call 858-704-3694.

In addition, the Del Mar Fairgrounds cannot receive additional clients with special needs as they are at full capacity. The City of Oceanside has opened a shelter at El Camino High School, 400 Rancho Del Oro, Oceanside, for these evacuees.

Winds won’t change until Thursday
Posted @ 9:08 PM

Fire officials said at 8:30 p.m. that they don’t expect to see winds change direction until late afternoon Thursday.
The relentless winds which have fueled the fire and have hampered firefighters’ efforts have been blowing from east to west since Sunday.
The winds are forecast to reverse to a normal pattern moving from west to east. Firefighters are starting to plan for that change.

One of the warm fuzzies at my work is seeing the folks come into the fire station to personally thank the firefighters who have saved their life. Some bake pies or cakes, some write heart touching letters and others bring what they they value most.

This guy walked into L.A. County FS 70 one day when I was working there to thank the crew with a big tuna he had just caught.

According to John Miller of the US Forest Service, anyone remaining in Green Valley Lake must evacuate now. Because of the imminent danger from the fire, all remaining fire and law enforcement personnel are being evacuated immediately.
