UPDATE: The city of Malibu is advising residents in Puerco Canyon to begin evacuating due to a wildfire driven by powerful winds. This area is north of Pacific Coast Highway and about 1 mile west of Pepperdine University. Residents along the beach on Malibu Road may soon be evacuated. Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Kanan-Dume Road and Topanga Canyon. Residents are advised to head to the west. Evacuation centers are being set up in the Zuma Beach area.
A wildfire driven by powerful winds in the Malibu Hills this morning threatened a university, destroyed at least one home and forced the evacuation of hundreds more, authorities said.

Prayers worked 'Dita, my bro emailed me a few minutes ago and is home now, after watching the fires from Oregon.
He has a huge mess to clean up, but the fire stopped short of his house. I was sending him map updates, but he could not see much on his Blackberry. Now that he is home and can review the progress I sent him on his laptop, it is giving him a scary picture of how close it was.
A miracle!! Thank you, dear Lord, for a miracle!!
What relief you all must feel...:)
Okay : ) Thank you. Just wanted to make sure that it wasn’t another crash.
Is there anything my DIL needs to do besides keep the kids indoors? They don’t have AC.
1300 sq miles of San Diego have burned, per KCAL9.
It’s truly amazing. KCAL9 just showed a similar situation, of a home intact and others burned to the ground nearby...
This could help, especially for those getting cabin fever:
The San Diego Fire Department is distributing 80,000 air-filter masks free to anybody who needs them.
The masks, capable of filtering 90 percent of most airborne particulates, are being handed out at assistance centers in Rancho Bernardo and elsewhere.
They also can be obtained at neighborhood fire stations throughout San Diego, officials said.
The masks, donated to the department by Direct Relief International, are recommended for senior citizens, pregnant women, people with heart or lung problems and anyone who needs to be outdoors for prolonged periods.
