KFMB Channel 8 reporter at Qualcomm stating San Diego City Schools are asking their teachers to go to Qualcomm tomorrow if they are out of fire danger, to help with the kids that are at the Q.

This struck me as odd. can’t the parents take care of their children?

well, today there was a huge argument about shelter the kids in place in the schools in SD, when the teachers couldnt make it in....

All I know is that there will be 100,000 people at Qualcomm and no looting or firing on helicopters.

can’t the parents take care of their children?

That stopped a couple of decades ago. Teachers these days are frequently called on to be the custodian of the kid and to do the parenting that the biological parents don't have time to do. My dad quit teaching in the 80's after spending thirty years in the classroom. His final shot was, "If I wanted to be a warden, I wouldn't have gotten a teaching credential".

Having the teachers there can give the parents a chance to deal with issues like insurance, food and finding temporary housing while knowing that their children are being looked after.

It could just give the parents a chance to deal with their shock of losing their house without having to keep strong for the sake of their kids. Knowing everything you own is burning is a very helpless feeling.
