TECATE, CALIF. -- With flames encircling this remote border crossing east of San Diego, U.S. customs inspectors wasted no time evacuating. They closed the gate blocking the lanes into California, wrapped a chain around it and snapped on the lock.
But not for long.
Minutes later Sunday afternoon, someone cut the chain. The gate swung open. People began rushing through the unguarded crossing ...
Since the Harris fire started, agents have arrested more than 200 migrants in the area, many after being smoked out of ravines and trails. Some may have started to cross before the blaze. But some probably decided to cross because of the opportunity it provided...
The crossing stayed unguarded for about 30 minutes, until Border Patrol agents and sheriff's deputies made their way back through the flames and re-secured the gate, Nuñez said...
Law enforcement officials say they don't believe huge numbers of people came through the unguarded port. Even if they did, the fires probably blocked their way.
The flames also have made it harder to hide, they say, since hillsides that once concealed migrants under bushes have been burned bare, exposing hundreds of trails ...

The East German knew how to guard a border... why don’t we outsource?
North Korean border guards. And, as a bonus, I hear that North Korean women are uniformly thin.
Burntbacks.
An account of a fire during a bison hunt comes from the translated journal of a Jesuit priest in 1680:
When they see a herd, the Indians assemble in great numbers. They set fire to the grass all around these animals except for one passage left on purpose. There the Indians station themselves with their bows and arrows. The buffaloes, wanting to avoid the fire, are thus forced to pass by the Indians, who at times kill as many as a hundred and twenty of them in one day. The buffaloes are distributed according to the needs of the families.
- Father Louis Hennepin (1938) on the use of fire for hunting bison in the Kankakee region in 1680.

I wonder why
Damn sure need something, abandoned post and put a two dollar lock on the gate. They should be required to round them all up or an equivalent number before they draw their next pay check.
Simple they know when to stop eating.
They stop when they run out of bark and grass.
*wipes off monitor* That was harsh. LOL!!!

I would think that the reason they are thin is because they are all starving slowly but surely under the wonderful benevolent government they enjoy in North Korea./Sar
I am sure many of them would be fatter if given the choice of eating more than a few blades of grass and tree bark!
No, it has been proved that just about all the foreign aide and food shipped there goes to the military first. So we are giving them food you could say.
Landmines would have prevented this.
Yah, I’ve heard of starvation wages but they take that literally in North Korea . . .
The silver lining! Burning brush along the border should be a standard operating procedure!
Possibly these prospective "immigrant"/arsonists are taking their cue from the abandoned border fence on the California border.
I do believe that method would work well to round up illegals who have crossed the border. Yessir, good idea!.
