Carnegie Hall? That used to be where major musical acts appeared. What did she do, sing:
"A major character in the Harry Potter series is gaaaaaay"
...with the New York Philharmonic?
Elvis was gay! Why do you think Priscilla left him?!
Next thing they’ll tell us the fictional Dr Kildare was gay (as well as D’Artagnan.)
This just in, parents: Truman Capote wasn’t gay!
Interesting reaction you had to my simply asking you a question.

And some seem shocked - shocked - that would offend christians, who have been assured, all along, that the Harry Potter books were harmless.
I don’t have a dog in this hunt, my kids are grown and can read whatever they want, I have watched some of the movies and found them entertaining, and I’m a Christian. I teach at a Christian school, and some of the kids do read them, while others’ parents are against the books. I am actually more curious what the reaction of the parents whose kids are very wrapped up in the series (those in my class) will be than anything else. I’m not surprised she said it, as I think even tho she has more money than almost anyone, she still wants the right people to think shes hip and cool. But that’s just my take. As you can see above my attempt to get someone else to give me their opinion got me a not so nice reply. Oh well.

Neither do I have any problem with my kids reading the books(too wordy for fiction). However, I do think it was dirty pool for her to slap this gratuitous announcement on her fan base.
Oh duh! Clearly I have read too many rude Freepers lately! ;)

When you create a population of characters as varied as Rowling's and have lived with them for as long as she has done, they tend to take on a life of their own. You as the writer may draw up your bible (no offense meant -- that's what it's called in the fiction business) of their backgrounds and personalities and relationships, but at some point you find your characters saying and doing things that surprise you. Indeed, if they don't, you probably haven't done your job right.
Did Rowling sit down 15 years ago and say to herself, "Let's see, we need a gay professor....," or was Dumbledore's orientation a response to the needs of the plot? Consider: According to the current backstory, in his youth Dumbledore had a homosexual crush on another character and was rejected, with the ultimate result that became the (apparently celibate) headmaster of the school rather than a career politician. Not exactly a ringing endorsement of the queer lifestyle, is it? After all, it's not as though he jetted off to the Castro to start the Folsom Street Fair.
Rowling is rattling the collective cages of the let's-take-everything-waaay-too-seriously crowd, and I for one can't entirely blame her.
Honestly answering your question is now classified as a “reaction?”
Correct. I’m calling Rowling an attention whore. Not sure how my post could be interpreted any other way, though.
Thought you were calling ME a Disease Whore. Easy to imagine all sorts of things with the types of posts one frequently sees on FR. However, I apologize for misreading your post.

No, no, nothing of the sort. Apologies if my earlier post wasn’t clear.
Q. You know how you can tell the headmaster of the Hogwart’s school?
A. He’s the one with the kneepads.
It’s not your fault—I blame it on age, but in fact it’s probably a factor of scanning a little too fast! Mea Culpa! And to think I agreed with your post... ;)

You're getting lots of venom from the Potter idol worshipers.
You nailed it.
