Fluorescent bulbs are OK in my book on a regular lamp, but what does Harman propose I use on the dimmer?

CFL’s don’t work on a dimmer?

You can now buy CF bulbs that work with a dimmer.

I think the bigger problem are special application bulbs, e.g. inside a fridge or oven, or special use outdoor bulbs that can't support a CF bulb.

The other problems with CF bulbs are the light generally isn't as nice, and some take up to a minute to reach full brightness.

They don’t last any longer then incendescents. They are an environmental nightmare. They are expensive. You can’t dim the fool things.

LEDs work much better.

fluorescent bulbs make us literally green. From a filmmakers persective everyone would look green on camera here on out. How utterly stupid! Fluorescent lights are also unhealthy. Can we get these yahoos out of office yet? I can’t buy oil paint any more in California. This is scary.

CFL’s are OK for some applications.. say a porchlight where you will turn it on and leave it on for hours, and it doesn’t matter if it took 15-30 seconds to warm up and emit its full light output.

However in a situation where you want INSTANT ON like say a bathroom at night, or most indoor room applications they are a poor replacement for incandescence.

There is NO WAY I will replace ever bulb in my house with CFLs. I have tried them, and use them where they work for me, but they are not equivalent to an incandescent.

Make them illegal, and I’ll just become a criminal and get them on the black market.
