OK. I got it. We’re still months away from a doomsday scenario where Rudy is the GOP nominee and you, me and everyone else has to find somebody else to support or stay home.
I’m just thinking a few moves ahead like a good chess player :-)
I hear you loud and clear....
THERE WILL BE NO SHAMELESS SHILLING FOR RON PAUL AS A THIRD PARTY CANDIDATE IF RUDY IS THE GOP NOMINEE AND PAUL IS THE ONLY PRO LIFE OPTION.
Paul wants to appease the islamofascists who want to kill us. It’s unacceptable. Government’s job above all else is to secure our safety from foreign enemies.
That’s why free people came to America. That’s what American citizens expect
I got it. You’re the boss. I understand.
I just like to get things out in the open.
GASP! Maybe it was Ron Paul himself who was ZOTTED. In that case, I owe a Mod a steak dinner. ;-)
Presentation this afternoon to a bunch of bigwigs. I am NERVOUS. Can't wail 'til this evening when it's all OVER!
Your lone source? I'm surrounded by hundreds of sources and have been for nearly four years. The majority of them are enthusiastic. This is, after all, a voluntary military. I know you anti-war folks would love to have a draft so that you could try to recreate the Vietnam era, but that's just not the way it is.
Only the older man(who he says is a poor soldier) in the platoon has had any combat experience. So for all the rest of the platoon, this will be their first time under real fire.
This is a war. That's what happens in a war. Even I have come under fire a few times and I'm a civilian. (And you don't hear me whining.)
However, much to the dismay of the doom-and-gloom anti-war crowd, people aren't coming "under fire" nearly as much these days because al Qaeda and the Mehdi Army have pretty much been defeated. Iraq is becoming quite peaceful.
Maybe you guys should campaign for pulling out of Philadelphia or L.A. instead. Those places are more dangerouns than Baghdad is now.
{Blowing on hands...} Ah, 'twas nothing. ;-)
jmc813 and La Enchiladita helped. :)
In which case I can dine out forever on that tale, and owe you a steak dinner.

You do not want to know what I would pay to buy Allegra a nice steak dinner, perhaps with a bottle or two of a very fine red wine.
Taste of Texas Steakhouse in Houston next time I’m home. :)
I'll be home on leave in 33 days.
Not that I'm counting or anything. ;-)
If you get to upstate NY, I would buy you dinner just to visit. You must have some fascinating stories to tell. ;^)
He has an open mind.
All his brains have fallen out.
Everybody with any sense wants to buy Allegra dinner!
;-)
-just marking MY place in line.
Sir tioga, If I weren’t married I’d call you out to the field of honor over Allegra.
Lady Allegra, if this fellow bothers you please let me know.
LOL........I am a woman and have at times posted to Allegra. I certainly always stop to read what she posts.
But thanks for the laugh. ;^)
LOL. Love you BOTH!
Thanks a lot tioga! Now I have this fantasy of having a steak dinner with two cute FReeper ladies.
We polish off about five bottles of heady red wine and talk about anything and everything.
Bursting out of the confines of the intimate restaurant we are exposed to the hot, summer, moonlit sky. As I embrace each of you we take turns gazing deeply into one another’s eyes.
And I go home and go to sleep because I’m not just married but also very damn old!
Sorry if that disappoints you.
;-)
Oh, I've got stories. I believe the best story is what's happening now. It's amazing.
I am sometimes gobsmacked by the fact that I have been blessed and honored with the opportunity to be a part of this. I always feel so alive here. :-)

Yes, I will admit my source was very anecdotal, but his statement that the older nco’s were not re-uping is very telling.
I will also admit that I would be much more against the war, if we had a draft, as I have draft age children. As it stands now, there is about zero chance that any of my children would be in the war.
We saw how quickly the Viet Nam war was ended, once we went to a system of where the rich and the poor were equally liable to be sent to Nam.
The young, platoon leading marine that I talked about was in the marines, got discharged, but went back into the marines on a matter of money.

Well, I think that, in a war situation, if you are not willing to sacrifice your life or your children’s lives, you should not be willing to sacrifice other people’s lives. I am willing to put my life on the line for things that I believe in, or in the defense of my children.
****However, much to the dismay of the doom-and-gloom anti-war crowd, people aren’t coming “under fire” nearly as much these days because al Qaeda and the Mehdi Army have pretty much been defeated. Iraq is becoming quite peaceful.****
It still comes down to whether or not you would be willing to put your life or your children’s lives on the line to achieve that situation. There are very few situations in today’s world were I am willing to make that commitment.
****Maybe you guys should campaign for pulling out of Philadelphia or L.A. instead. Those places are more dangerouns than Baghdad is now.*****
In peacetime, I have no problem with a volunteer military. In war time, it is a different story. We would be out of Iraq in a heart beat, if the rich had to send their kids there.
But this isn't all about you. There are people who are willing to put their lives on the line and you ought to be grateful to them for doing it. Just because jmeagan doesn't want to do it doesn't make it wrong.
I know some enlisted guys who angled to change units when they finished their tours so that they could come back over here. We believed in it all along because we could see the real situation, not the media's disgustingly distorted version.
Thank a soldier next time you see one. You owe him/her that much.
There are plenty of people from well-to-do families here. They do it because they love their country. It's not all about money....not by a long shot. I myself did not need the money; I have a great career back home. I wanted to be a part of this.
Your opinion sounds kind of liberal. Are you a liberal? (I am asking honestly because I have heard liberals say very similar things.)
