I was thrown by the would be black man phrase. I wasnt sure what one had to do with the other. Did he succeed in his attempt to become a black man? I'm on the edge of my seat.

Is a "would-be" black man a "potential" black man? Is he saying that black men end up on drugs? What the heck is he trying to say???
