O.K. You think its just a box.

But I wouldn;t touch it myself. God is inside it.

Would God still reside inside it today? Jesus' death and ressurection should have negated the necessity of all that, just like Jesus claimed he was in the Rock during the flight from Egypt which I believe is literally true, although I know no mention of anyone knowing where that rock is now. Why would it still be necessary for power to emanate from the ark after Jesus rose from the dead? He said He was present when two or more were gathered in His name. It seems to me that it can't be both ways. Jesus was Emmanuel, God is with us, so Christians believe, not that I believe that that God is not also with the remnant Jews in some mystical way. I just tend to believe that the Ark, if it still exists, may still contain the tablets, can't remember offhand the relics supposed to be in it, and has no power associated with it at this time or for the past 2000+ years. It would be, to me, a holy artifact if I am correct.

Catholics might believe that the Real Presence superceded the ark, not sure how that is viewed. Some even think it is in the Vatican, I've no opinion on that one way or the other.

The Ark of the Covenant was more than just a box inhabited by God. It was a physical metaphor commissioned by God pointing to the future of God’s Children. We were to be “living Arks” inhabited with God’s Spirit. The laws of God were to be written inside of our Hearts much in the way the Holy Books were kept inside of the Ark. The opposing Cherubim’s with the mercy seat in between where God’s Shekinah glory rested are a symbol of the consciousness of man (the left and right hemispheres of the brain and our individually conscious sentience that attempts to maintain integrity between mind and body)which has been supernaturally renewed by the Spirit of Grace.

The Ark was not just a box with God’s power...it was a love
promise, a vision as to how he’ll remake us some-day...”Being not conformed to the world, but being transformed into the image of Christ by the renewing of our minds”!
