“Doing it to another adult is mean and stupid, doing it to a child with a history of mental illness is criminal. It is child abuse, which is a felony.”
Oh boy... saying nasty things to kids (16, at that) is CHILD ABUSE... and a felony?
You sure seem eager to open a giant can of worms.
Guilty.
Another thread said the neighbors are always giving them grief, the husband lost his job, the wife lost her customers for her small business, etc. Its a start I guess. I don’t agree that the girl should be bullied at school, but hopefully all of her classmates will stay away and realize she’s not a decent person to hang around with.
Followed by being named in a r-e-a-l-l-y big civil action.
What happened here didn't comprise "saying nasty things to kids". I hope you never have a child that has to deal with what happened to my son or to this deceased young lady. Did you hear me, "DECEASED YOUNG LADY". If you are from Rio Linda, that means she is dead, not crying.
If you are indifferent to what has happened, I sincerely hope you are not a parent. If you are not, I strongly recommend you avoid becoming one. If you are, I even more strongly recommend you get some counseling for your child/children's sake!
Now run along and find someone else to try and annoy.
I'm sorry to hear that... and I understand why this hits home for you.

I understand that she died... but it was by her own hand.
She was emotionally fragile, and she killed herself. It's tragic, and the friend's mother certainly did something cruel... but I would not call it "child abuse".
It was child abuse, pure and simple. See what happens if you impersonate a teenager in a chat room and crush some kid’s ego for laughs and they kill themselves over it.
“it would seem that they can be found liable for the intentional infliction of emotional distress and other torts.”
Intentional or reckless conduct that is extreme or outrageous, which causes serious emotional harm — I think we have that here. Also, you “take the victim the way you find him [her]”. In the case of Ms. Drew, her knowledge that the girl was emotionally fragile would hurt her defense, not help it.
The problem is that the principal victim, the little girl, is not around to sue, so any rights she had may be gone. The parents may be able to sue for the same tort, however.
Thanks. I am glad you understand! Jerri sure doesn’t!
Some people think that Lori Drew is a child predator, like the ones on Dateline.
I wonder if any family besides the Drews have been subjected to social shunning and vilification? I know it has happened to individuals like OJ Simpson.
“It was child abuse, pure and simple. See what happens if you impersonate a teenager in a chat room and crush some kids ego for laughs and they kill themselves over it.”
Why don’t you see what happens when you stretch the definition of child abuse to include “impersonating a teenager in a chat room and crushing a kid’s ego”?
At any rate, the horrible woman is NOT being charged with any crimes. So it looks like the law doesn’t agree with your position.
Her judgement will come at the end of her days.
It's HER parents that pi$$ me off! Why the heck was a 13-year-old girl allowed unsupervised access to the Internet, let alone the creep-fest that is MySpace?
