Generally on FR women that age never married get nothing but grief, as if they’ve committed sin.
Now, I realize this is one of those ‘mega’ churches we hear about. But what makes them any different? Why would this pastor feel compelled to have protection?
You might want to pose this question to pastor John Heggi! When the gunman aimed the revolver at the pastor and it did not fire.
Up until this happened to pastor Haggi, he had no body guards.

I posted this on another thread on the same subject. Churches in general, and large churches in particular, attract troubled people who need God's help. Some of these people are mentally ill; others are fleeing from punitive ex-spouses; others have criminal backgrounds and/or drug problems and are trying with varying degrees of success to get their lives right. Such people can bring danger and violence to a church themselves or can attract loony contacts, because the church is the one place the ex knows where to find them every week at the same time. Drug and alcohol outreach programs churches sometimes run may attract emotionally unstable people, by definition.
I attend a church that in the past twenty years has grown to be a mega-church (on the low end of the scale of mega-churches). The pastor has been threatened repeatedly. Enough money is collected in tithing each week to attract criminals. There have been many security problems involving stalkers, ex-husbands, crazy people. So there is a very strong security presence there, involving both uniformed and plain-clothes off dutycops and at least one federal agent I know of.
Liberals are invariably NEVER “strong” - including the feminazis. They’re wimpy weak-kneed fools whose very looks belie their true nature.
She also seems nice and smart. Now I really hate her!
All kidding aside, I am amazed by her coolness, quick-thinking and composure. And no matter what the circumstances, being forced to take the life of a young person must weigh heavily on her heart. I pray she finds peace with what she had to do.
I think that a picture of her and Ann Coulter at the firing range together would really sell as a poster here on FR.
Now that's an interesting answer. It's not like we're describing a hockey game where things sometimes do get out of control. This is a church where the parishioners go to (ostensibly) worship God their Savior. Yet the church hierarchy feels it necessary to provide security? Some questions come to mind...
1) Do they feel 'targeted' because of the number of people/donations collected weekly?
2) Are they failing to get the message across? (Concern over internal disorder)
3) Are they getting the wrong message across (not all 'mega' churches necessarily provide the true doctrine)?
4) Are they interested in getting the message across instead of building membership?
The Bible tells us that where two or more come together in His name He will be also. I hardly see the need for security under proper circumstances, unless, that is, some outside entity is considered a threat.
With a congregation that size the collection plate must be able to support a small nation. I would suspect that is one of the reasons they need armed security. Plus just having that many people together means an increased chance of personal conflict and the occasional nut cases that statistically must be there.
I think you're misconstruing what happens. When a woman gets older or has children, very often her hair thins dramatically. A lot of women lose handfuls of hair during pregnancy. Long, thin, broken, straggling hair is not attractive. So women in their late thirties and forties often have to start cutting the thin hair. A woman like this one who still has luxuriant locks in her forties is rare.
As for me, In my middle age I'm fighting it out to the bitter end because Mr. Fairview would kill himself if I cut my hair. It's up to the shoulders now, though.
I’m 64 years old and have attended a mainline Protestant church my entire life. In all those years I’ve only seen known one instance where someone came to the church looking for aid, who we felt was a potential threat. I happened to be in the office that day along with the secretary, and I was able to keep control of him verbally until an officer arrived. The situation never came close to being out of control, and we probably over reacted anyway.
If this is the type of environment in such churches today, I’m glad I’m not a part of that, er, culture.

The verse you quoted is spoken in context to church discipline, not church security.

Being male, I can understand how a woman with standards could easily get to age 42 or even 50 or 60 without finding a man worthy of marrying. Doesn't bother me in the least.

I’d have to listen again, but I don’t think she said “single”, just “not married”. Even so, I think that “single” could cover divorced and widowed. I just inferred that she was not currently married.

This may sound "wrong" but she needs to have kids. That type of warrior DNA needs to be propagated. Hell, her use of "cover" and target acquisition while stress firing her weapon makes you wonder about her training and background.
For her not to panic and just do the job is a testament to both her training and her personality. By personality, I mean her sense of duty.
oh, and she ain't hard to look at.
I'd like to say, "I'd hit it"....but I'm afraid that she'd "hit me back".... and wouldn't miss. So I respectfully salute the woman from Colorado and pray that she finds support from her church, friends and family.

The cell phone shots you saw of officers behind cars and trees was the second wave. Not in those pictures were the 12 officers already going inside while shots were still being fired. The officers behind trees and cars were doing EXACTLY what they had been trained to do — shutting off the perimeter of the building so the shooter couldn’t slip out. The first police on the scene went into the building as quickly as they could
Last shots had been fired? That’s where you really show you don’t know anything at all. When Cho killed himself because he heard the police coming, he still had more than 200 unfired rounds. That;s been all over the media.
What business do you have calling the police at the VT massacre cowards? You owe every one of them an apology.
