Poll: Bill Clinton More Influential Than Oprah

Oprah Winfrey has garnered lots of press over the impact she might have on the presidential election by actively campaigning for Barack Obama — but Bill Clinton actually has far more influence among voters than Oprah.

In a new CBS/New York Times national poll, 44 percent of Democratic primary voters said they were more likely to vote for Hillary because of her husband. But only 1 percent said they were more likely to vote for Obama because of Oprah.

Less than half of respondents — 46 percent — said the former president made no difference in how they view Hillary’s candidacy, and just 7 percent said they were less likely to vote for her because of Bill.

“According to the poll, Bill Clinton could be more important to Hillary Clinton’s supporters than the issue the candidate has made the cornerstone of her campaign: experience,” Fox News reported.

“Twenty-six percent of those polled said they support Clinton because of her husband. Only 23 percent said they support her because of her experience.”

The poll also showed that Hillary is viewed as the most electable Democratic candidate — 63 percent said she has the best chance of winning, while 14 percent said Obama was most electable and 10 percent chose John Edwards.

Only 23 percent said they support her because of her experience.

Sad.

My god. Look how far we have fallen.

Must be because Bill is blacker than The Oprah

Bill panders to blacks for their vote

Oprah panders to whites for their money

I talked to a bleeding heart lib yesterday who said that she believed Hillary Clinton DID have a lot of power in the White House and that she does count those 8 years as "years of Presidential experience" because Hillary knew almost everything that was going on and did not just stick to typical First Lady endeavors.

You know, she's got a point. Of course, that's why we must fight to keep her out of the White House...

Bill Clinton may have more influence than Oprah. But the people who are influenced by Bill Clinton are already in the tank for Hillary!. More volume from Bill Clinton is not going to change that, because people know that Bill Clinton has (presumably) been supporting Hillary! Clinton all along.

Oprah, OTOH, is a new force on the scene. She is in a position to move people who have not already been moved.

What bugs me about that is how willing some people are to be a mark for grifters like the Clintons.

Hillary was -- I'm sure -- instrumental in every single successful and popular political undertaking during Bill's 8 years as preident.

I am equally sure that Hillary had absolutely nothing to do with every single unsuccessul, or unpopular undertaking. In fact, she probably warned against all of them, but -- you know how stupid and sexist men can be -- they just didn't listen to her.

People who buy this stuff are just gullible folks waiting to be had.

I think that’s right. She will get people out to hear Obama who would probably not have heard him and his message before. He shows nicer than Hillary. She’s abrasive, which is about the nicest thing I can think of to say about her.

I would hope a President of the United States would have more influence over a talk show host. I guess I have some faith in America at least.

If they had run a poll in Alabama when Lurleen Wallace was running for governor, what percent would have said they were voting for her because of her experience, and what percent because of George Wallace?

The more interesting question would be how many people are less likely to support Hillary because of Bill...probably no one who would otherwise support Obama would turn against him because Oprah is supporting him.

"...44 percent of Democratic primary voters said they were more likely to vote for Hillary because of her husband."

As you pointed out these people are already in the tank for her, anyway. Furthermore, Hillary's entire political career is Bill, always has been.

LOL. More damage control by the Clinton MSM. Let's see if Bill can attract 30,000 to a campaign rally in SC.

I agree - Clinton Damage Control - I wouldn’t bother ever going to see Bill - only if he was going to be embarrassed. Note - Bill & Hill are not renting out Stadiums!

People who would vote for her because of her husband are brain dead anyway, so the poll is worthless...

My guess is that the poll respondents were simply too ashamed to admit that they pay any attention to Oprah, a slightly ridiculous television personality. On the other hand, Bill Clinton is obviously an experienced politician and the more likable half of the couple (that’s not saying much, but it’s true), so it’s natural for Hillary’s supporters to credit Bill for their allegiance.
