... the reality is it really isn't journalism at all, and it opens up information flow to the strong probability of fraud and abuse. It was better in ye olde days.

The dorky professor has deemed himself judge and jury on the great unwashed bloggers and others. Who died and appointed this P.O.S. God? His screed is sooo very elitest, and his penchant for hyperbole leaves me cold. Typical of the a$$clowns at the University of Georgia School of Journalism! Tell him to just kiss my grits and to feel free to stick his head back up where we all know it has been!

Journalist are for the most part news managers who do stories or write in a manner that is bias towards their agenda. This is of course legal under the Constitution but so is FREE Speech for all citizens of the United States not just left-wing liars who are called Journalist.

Gee he should take a page from Hugo Chavez and have the government control all the news media including the Internet so they are sure to get their stories right.

Seems like all journalists have common traits.
Please don't make generic statements. You can be specific about the individuals you are referring to, but there are "journalist" and "former journalist" like myself on FR who don't crap roses.
Personally, my crap doesn't smell like a rose!

Hazinski lashing out at
new media indicates the second stage cusp of his acceptance of
new media truth.
Every truth passes through three stages before it is recognized. In the first it is ridiculed, in the second it is violently oppossed, in the third it is regarded as self-evident. - Arthur Schopenhauer
To laugh going into yet another weekend.
The rise of alternate media talk radio, Fox News, and the internet has not simply allowed competing voices to be heard in the public square, it has robbed many media grandees of the ultimate reward of their striving after careers as shapers of mass opinion. Some have become unbalanced mentally, and emotionally overwhelmed by the loss. They strike out with blind fury at their 'enemies' (the subjects whom they have covered as 'unbiased' journalists), and thereby let the mask of objectivity slip from their faces, revealing spiteful, arrogant and bigoted visages. By dismissing those who disagree with them as unworthy of consideration, they expose to light the longhidden dark vision of the rest of humanity that enables them to regard themselves as worthy. - Thomas Lifson

Mark Twain stated it best, so all I can do is quote him:
"...the public opinion of a nation, is created in America by a horde of ignorant, self-complacent simpletons who failed at ditchdigging and shoemaking and fetched up in journalism on their way to the poorhouse."
Apparently, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

The same news media that brought us Dan Rather’s “fake but accurate” Memogate is going to regulate bloggers? I don’t think so.

In reality, a Journalist is simply someone who writes a column that is distributed to the public through a public medium.
The internet is a public medium.
Therefore, anyone who posts, is a journalist.
Now, about the pay scale.......
I have posted 15,985 replies. I’m expecting a big check for Christmas.

Rather is only the most visible of many thousands “errors” and “omissions” found in the national MSM network of repeaters and duplicators.
But he doesn’t bring those errors up: does he even admit their presence in his classes about integrity and ethics in “journalism” - or does he pretend that the “yellow paper” hype of the 1890’s that pushed us into the Spanish American War in Cuba even exist?
