Proof Hucakbee is lying about the moving cross
myself | Dec 20, 2007 | Travis McGee

"THE TODAY SHOW"

MEREDITH VIEIRA: Let's talk about this Christmas ad, because it comes after you have taken some hits from the critics, first for calling yourself a Christian leader, then for questioning whether Mormons believe Christ and the devil were brothers, something you did apologize for.

Now in this ad you are say people should be celebrating the birth of Christ while the shape of a cross appears to take shape behind you. And that has led some to say that this is another overt religious appeal to voters. What do you say about this ad and about those criticisms?

MIKE HUCKABEE: That floating cross is a bookshelf, Meredith. We were all amused -- the production crew I think probably more than anyone, who put the spot together.

VIEIRA: So you didn't see that image when you put the spot together, that it might be confused?

HUCKABEE: Absolutely not.

These are movie camera "tracking dollies."

There are two reasons to use tracking dollies when directing a film. The most basic use is when following a moving subject and keeping them in the same plane. The classic use is to follow a walking actor in profile.

The other use of the tracking dolly is to move the background in a controlled way, while keeping the foreground subject in one place by simultaneiously tracking and panning the camera.

That is how the Huckabee team contrived and executed the shot, in order to move the glowing white (spotlighted) shelf/cross from the left side of the shot to behind Huckabee's head, in exactly the 30 seconds of the ad.

The use of the tracking dolly is the smoking gun, the proof that the moving cross effect was deliberate, and that Huckabee is lying about it being an unnoticed coincidence.

They didn't just come out and "find" that a tracking dolly had magically appeared on the set, and decide, "Aw shucks, why don't we stick the camera on this here funny contraption, and slide it from left to right while aiming at Mike's head, just for the heck of it."

Every aspect of this political advertisement was deliberate, down to the placement of the three ornaments on the glowing white spotlighted empty shelf.

The proof that the moving cross effect was deliberate, is the use of the tracking dolly to move the cross in the background in a perfectly controlled way.

"He is not a Christian if he is lying...."

Huh? Why do you think that a Christian would not lie?
Do you think that they also always drive the speed limit?

If it’s a bookshelf, where’s the books? Would have been more believable if Huck said it was a window pane.

I guess my point was not as clear as I should have made it...

Who cares if there was a cross? There are other, more important issues at hand with EACH candidate (not just Huckabee) that need to be addressed and this is CHILDISH of the media and those who attack that particular aspect of someone’s campaign.

How was that? :)

If someone told me that ONE of the current crop of ALL of the Presidential
aspirants had attended law school and left it off their resume...
I’d guess it was Huckabee.

Huckabee is that slick.

Nonsense. People who are around that stuff all the time (e.g. preachers, priests, etc.) don't notice it.

Years back (more than a decade) we formed a team to travel around the region visiting larger postal installations to identify unused equipment ~ the point was we would find it and local postal managers would then put it in service or ship it to others so that it could be put to work.

We discovered hundreds of millions of dollars worth of postal equipment just sitting there waiting for work in postal facilities where the top management team had reported a critical shortage of such things.

Sometimes we'd find stacks of trays on pallets clogging the main operations platform ~ so obvious they had to figure out ways to work around it!

Crosses and religious folks do go hand in hand in Christianity. Only nut cases think that to be strange.

You have to be a completely paranoid idiot to write that post. I own a production company and have shot hundreds of political ads. We always use a dolly for effect on head shots. We also always use pin spot lights to highlight the background. It gives a halo effect on the subject. We have also shot nearly every shot in front of some sort of book case. If he wanted a cross in the background, he would not have used a dolly movement because the cross actually disappears behind his head at the end of the ad. He was talking about Jesus in the spot for Christ’s sake. Why would he go to the trouble to be subliminal about the cross???? If he wanted to use a cross, he could just put a fifty foot cross in the background. I’m not a Huckabee supporter but you people need to find something else to talk about.

Yeah, I’ve been listening.

Huckabee isn’t on my list of folks to vote for in the primaries.

So, he’s out of the race. And as far as I am concerned, it’s going to be between Fred, Hunter, the former mayor of NY (what’s his name again?) and McCain.

Right now it’s anyone’s GUESS (like mine are guesses) who will be the front runners in the upcoming primaries. But, I’ll call it like *I* see it (see above).

Fred and Hunter are the most genuine people I’ve seen. Guiliani is going to get close because the GOP and the media seem to be pushing him the most. McCain has a SHOT at it (and if he makes it to running against Hillary I’ll vote for him even though I dont like him as much)

I do agree with you though, if someone is a former preacher and he’s lying about a cross, or something church/religion related... then it is time to look elsewhere.

Read my post on the matter (it's in reference to #5). The "cross" was invisible to Huck. And, in fact, it looked like a bookcase to me too.

As Sigmund Freud told the woman once "Madame, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar".

Now go flush that stuff you've been smoking down the toilet before the cops break in and haul you away!

Yes, a crucifix in a Christmas advertisement about a Baptist preacher running for political office would definitely go un-noticed by everybody ~ NOT! (ROTFLMAO) (Beam me up Calvin)

Hey, the guys making the fuss are Ron Paul or Dennis Kucinic supporters. And what do they know about crosses.

Yeah, and the media's propping him up because they know the Klintons have the goods on him. ALL the goods.

And yes, he's a chicken$#!+ for deliberately placing a CROSS in his ad and then denying it, thus trying to have it both ways.

He must have cut class to the day they talked about Peter.

I asked a friend who does video production. He watched it on YouTube and described to me how the shot was laid out, lighted and shot. The 'cross' was very obviously, very deliberately placed in there to provide a subliminal efefct to his trained eye.

His first words; "That was very slick how they did that."

And how will the Liberals do that? Will they go after the Baptist church perhaps, or Christianity in general?

Think the Liberals will call in the Pope to lead a charge or something?

Why is everyone here at FR so upset with Bill Clinton during the latter part of his administration? After all, every politician lies, don't they. And I should not have to read another post lambasting Hiliary Clinton for her many lies. It's not big deal, after all?

Well, that puts candidates in a whole new light. Truth... never mind.

This Holiday (HOLY DAY) IS, after all, about the birth of the Son of God who came to earth to save us from OUR sins by DYING ON A (gasp!) CROSS. It’s called CHRISTmas!!!!

GET OVER IT!!

BTW, if THAT faith doesn’t suit you, there’s always islam.

Yeah. You're right. You're always right. I should have known. I must have read the notice when I signed on here.

As for the smoking, never have, never will (except for a few cigars annually). If the cops come, I'll offer them one each.

Finally, get a life.

Good morning.
“I worry greatly about his LYING about using the cross.”

You have to wonder why he even felt the need to lie about using the symbol of the faith wraps himself in.

He also lies about his credentials:

I have read comments where some people are saying that it’s not big deal that Huckabee said he’s got a theology degree, but he doesn’t.

I have to say that lying about a theology degree is a big deal.

It could get you fired from a job.

I have a BA in Bible, but I would never misrepresent myself as having a theology degree.

Why does Huckabee?

A Bachelors degree (which Huckabee does have) is a prerequisite for a Masters of Divinity, or as Huckabee likes to call it, a theology degree.

He said several times in different places that he had a theology degree, probably hoping that no one would check into it, or know the difference.

Obviously, he is lying and misrepresenting himself to promote himself politically.

He seems to have the same tendencies as his predecessor, Bill Clinton, who is a sociopathic liar.

That’s how both Bill and Huckabee can look you straight in the eyes, smile and say their lies without even flinching. Sociopathic liars believe their own lies.

And Huckabee supporters think when things like this come out, it is persecution coming from the devil. It’s not — it’s Huckabee’s own doing — or maybe I should say — undoing.
