Leahy also is annoyed that the Bush administration plans to start requiring birth certificates instead of passports at the U.S.-Canada border next month.

...what.

What’s the practical purpose for this?

I know ‘Leaky’ Leahy is a Dem and all, but I can think of no feasible reason to add this when most Americans want border security.

Perhaps he’s retarded.

I believe it is because the passport services can’t get their act together and provide the necessary passports in a timely manner.

I say start firing people. See how long it takes to get things moving. : )

Well, our President will no doubt raise HELL about this and endlessly hammer the Democrats about this egregious situation until they capitulate to his earnest, forceful, impassioned, sustained efforts to protect the United States and Her citizenry.

Right, Mr. President?

.

... Sir?

Hey, if we (meaning America, Canada and Mexico) are all going to be part of some ‘North American Union’ with a universal currency, who needs passports for travel within North America anyway?

Don’t we need passports or birth certs for entry into Mexico and Canada?

It has been a few years since I visited either (4-6) and I did.

I think they should be required for travel to and from Vermont and Massachusetts too.

"I think they should be required for travel to and from Vermont and Massachusetts too."

Would border fees be paid in Vermont currency or Massachusetts currency?

Now, I believe the President has the right to enforce this action, as defending the country is part of his constitutional duties. Senator Leahy is way-y-y out of line.

When entering Canada from the United States, U.S. citizens must show either a U.S. passport or other proof of U.S. citizenship - such as an original or certified birth certificate together with photo identification. U.S. citizens entering Canada from a third country must have a valid passport. A visa is not required for U.S. citizens for a stay up to 180 days.

Current Requirements

The birth certificate thingee isn't new. Recall that we took birth certificates with us on the last three trips we've made to Canada over the last 10 or so years.

For those that pound President Bush for being soft on illegal immigration, remember one thing.......it could be a whole lot worse.

Shadows of things to come if we get a Dem President.

Just file these away for future reference.

When the next attack comes, be sure to reference these actions and ignore what is sure to be the MSMs twisted and lying spin as to why what happened did happen.

Then those responsible for the actions which left us open to such attacks will need to be dealt with, including their co-conspirators in the MSM.

I’m sure they have no idea what’s coming their way.

The problem for the Bush administration is that passports ONLY work with people coming in at appropriate ports of entry.

Regrettably, it does nothing to quell the flood of illegals coming in primarily from Mexico and the Caribbean, as the Bush administration has basically given the illegals a free pass.

The net result it that it imposes restrictions [passport required] on legal entry, while doing little-to-nothing to restrict illegal entry.

You post that, but the facts just don't back it up.

Reagan signed the last massive amnesty for illegals. Clinton signed one that allowed 1-3 million to get amnesty. Al Gore, per numbersUSA had an A- rating on immigration issues; that was higher than most of the current crop of wannabes.

GWBush has been pushing for massive amnesty since 2001. The first attempt, after the 9-11 attacks, was stopped on a technicality by one Senator Robert Byrd (D-WVA). Bush had another try in 2006, when his Republican Senate passed Comprehensive Immigration but the House let it die. He tried again, twice in 2007, when the Democrat Senate failed to pass it.

Because we're not going to be part of some ‘North American Union’.
