No conservative would think that federalism is a liability

“I think Huckabee is a disgrace, and brings shame on Christianity.”

Agreed!! Of course the liberals want him for a guaranteed win.
He’s totally obnoxious and I see little difference between him and a used car sale man in a cheap striped suit lying like hell just to get a sale.

I understand this site to be somewhat anti-Rudy...

(Hey, good discernment!!!)

...but he is who I will be voting for in the Primaries.

(Hey, poor discernment!!!)

And I’m in battle ground state. Just curious for a unbiased opinion on his chances for getting the nom, overall.

I'm biased based upon the fact that your candidate openly supports the killing of pre-born babies...not a good reflection on his Catholic ties, BTW.

Again, not interested in posts bashing Rudy, rather is it realistic to think he will win the nom? Love FR...TIA

(Didn't think ya were...but ya stuck your head up above the foxhole...Tell ya what...since you seem to be in sync w/ your "man" RG, why doncha, when you go vote, vote symbolically by dressing in drag as you do so...)

Other than that...tell us...how long have you had this phobia about God being Master of the Universe & all parts thereof?

God is in control, but He works in mysterious ways.

Government is out of control, and works in expensive, usually stupid, and occasionally brutal ways. The less of it the better.

Huck likes government - he wants the system that works in expensive, stupid, and brutal ways to do what he thinks is "God's work". That's dumb, and dangerous.

Newsflash to you, but I would say that those who rank "moral issues" as the very most important issues to them are probably a minority of Republicans.

"Moral conservatives", aka Reagan Democrats, are not "the base." They might be part of the base, but so are those "Goldwater conservatives" you disdain.

Plus, I think you grossly overestimate the disproportionate influence you seem to claim Goldwater conservatives have over the party. After all, the current President was always more palatable to moral conservatives, to use your term, than he was to Goldwater conservatives. We nominated him in a landslide, though.

The GOP might not survive a defection of single issue social conservatives, but it will certainly not survive a defection of fiscal conservatives. Your social-only-conservatives can beat their chests over how the GOP "needs" them, but if they want any voice at all in politics, they need the GOP just as badly.

Thanks for posting the thread! I hope you are right about FDT. Russert predicts FDT to drop out and endorse JOHN McCAIN! I hope he is dead wrong.

So you’re saying he won’t get the nom?

That is my view, yes. I think McCain has the best chance at the nomination, pending the Iowa results.

Assuming most of us will be praying tomorrow anyway, anyone out there able to host a prayer chain...people sign up for, say, 20 minute slots from the start of the voting in Iowa to the end ? I’’d sign up for a few of them throughout the day. Make sure we get it all in Iowa time. I don’t know how to “host” something like this, or I would, but a lot of you have the blogspots and such so if we can get it going, let me know...

I heard the Lord saying that he is looking to get 2 of any Candidates
to agree and come together. He wants them to Unite/ Humble themselves
and come into AGREEMENT for the Nation/
Put aside differences and Stand together to bring the Unity we need.

A nation divided can Not stand.

Mat 12:25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:

For example if Romney and Huckabee did this/ What would happen?

So God is going to make away where there was No way.

Pretty strange.

From the article:

“Rural Iowa matters for another reason in the Democratic contest. In order to encourage candidates to campaign in farming areas, state Democrats have tilted the delegate allocation so that rural areas are disproportionately represented in the final results. This sometimes can lead to bizarre results. As Roger Simon of Politico.com notes, “the turnout in some precincts is so small that a single family—let’s say four people—can determine the winner. In other precincts, only one person will show up and win for his candidate by being the only person in the room.” In small-turnout caucus meetings, ties are resolved by a coin toss or drawing lots. In 2004, four precincts saw literally no one show up to vote in the Democratic caucus.

There are other anomalies on the Democratic side. Some precincts use a different threshold level than 15% for the viability of a candidate. “Residency” rules are incredibly elastic. No one checks identification, and anyone who claims to live in the precinct is allowed to vote. In other words, very little prevents the unscrupulous (such as out-of-state campaign workers who have “lived” in Iowa for a few weeks) from having a role in the process. Each caucus also elects a “permanent chair,” who can have an outsize role in the process. Ned Chiodo, who has been appointed temporary chair of his local caucus by the state Democratic Party, told Politico.com that a permanent chair “controls the flow of the meeting. You have influence. You may be able to pick up a vote or two here and there for your candidate.”

GOOD GRIEF!!

The way the democrats run this ridiculous caucus says alot about how they would run the country as well should they get elected!! I hope we all remember that when the dust finally settles and we have our nominee!

It will be time to licks our wounds from the primaries and pull together to defeat the dems!!

I agree about the burning bridges,...and we gotta stop criticising Bush also, myself included.

I think Rush was Right about "identity politics", good call.

I think you are wrong about opinions being "self destructive" .....opinions are the building blocks of freedom

We've both been here more or less 6 years, and I'm betting neither of us has seen the flame wars brewing here like during this primary season. Pretty amazing and sad (we're losing respected FReepers in the process. Hopefully they'll stew a bit and return home), however with no "heir apparent" to follow President Bush, we're left to boil down the pool of candidates until we get the right conservative. Everyone else is going to get scalded.

And yes, it's nasty. I've laughed to the point of hysterics at some of the verbal evisceration I've seen of the liberals on this forum. It's a terrible waste to see both our best and most base wordsmiths turning on each other. We'll need to pull together when it's over unless we really, really want a stalinist to win the White House come November.

And I'm not claiming innocent, either. I've ripped each of the candidates in turn. At one point I questioned the guy I supported (Thompson) and got shredded while screaming "I'M A FRIENDLY! HOLD FIRE!"

This contest is going to be bitter for the GOP no matter how it turns out who wins. We're so divided at this point. Hopefully the bruises will heal over the next 11 months. We need to win this one regardless of who the nominee is.
