As an Amateur Radio Operator holding the highest class license available in the US... and being a Ham that lived through Katrina... I can tell you that the State and Federal governments have awarded local Ham groups for supplying emergency communications for Local, State and Federal agencies... when cell and other forms of communication were down for weeks to months. Hundreds of lives were saved by hams doing what we always have done.
We now have voice and digital communications installed (post Katrina) that will carry ham radio and emergency communications well into this century. I am highly offended by this ignorance on mitt's part and any President that does not understand this asset is not ready for office. President Bush has been involved with the American Radio Relay League (ARRL in Newington CT) in support of and in awarding hams and groups for their volunteer emergency service. mitt is not fit for the office of President for many reasons... this being one that I take personally!

See LLS? That’s the sort of thing I’m talking about. Understanding the role Amateurs play in such things and doing something to make it better for them, rather than dissing them.
(I’m an Amateur Extra also — and for those of you that care, my call sign is N0NJY)
