Fredmentum update

A Fred staffer from one of the primary states he's lost already writes in to dispute my view that the Thompson campaign lacks an overriding theme and a memorable slogan. This is the view from his state:

"Here are some other things missing from the campaign:

1) a finance chair

2) a clear chain of command

3) top-down loyalty

4) a candidate who was willing to campaign for more than 4 hours at day

5) direct mail

6) a college student coordinator

7) a media strategy

Other than that, the campaign had everything."

In New Hampshire, I know of two town chairs for the Fred campaign who wound up voting for other candidates.

If the state in question is New Hampshire -- as it appears to be -- then it's not a surprise.

New Hampshire was never on Fred's radar. He spent no money there; nor did he organize there.

Could be a good time to buy Thompson on Intrade. All sellers right now.

Let’s hope he is a lot better organized in SC.

When they say no "top down loyalty" he means Fred abandoned his supporters in New Hampshire

Marc Steyn lives in New Hampshire. It sounds as if this is indeed someone from New Hampshire speaking.

I don’t know if there was miscommunication, or what. Fred couldn’t afford to campaign there, the way things were going, he had to focus on other states. Possibly there were other intentions earlier.

In any case, I don’t think anonymous comments by a disgruntled former supporter are that significant.

Some supporters. Sounds like they needed someone to hold their soft little hands.

This coming from a magazine that endorsed Romney. No surprise there.

Well, considering that a large number of people have already been influenced into deciding who they are going to vote for based on what a daytime gossip TV show host said, I would have to say YES.

Try to imagine volunteering to support a candidate, donating money, organizing supporters, and raising signatures to get him/her on the ballot, only to be left behind for strategic reasons. We did that to the Battlin' B**tards of Bataan in WWII.

Fred's supporters in New Hampshire doubtless felt abandoned by his strategic decision to concentrate on South Carolina.

Given limited means, though, it's hard to argue with the decision.

They weren’t that badly organized here in Iowa. Way more than Huck was.

You can find somebody saying that every time a campaign loses. They’re the sort that used to haunt government offices expecting a cushy job for making a couple of stump speeches back before Garfield was assassinated.
