How is Michael Savage On the Air? Oh, That’s How
North Star Writers Group ^ | January 21, 2008 | Nathaniel Shockey

Michael Savage, the occasionally loud, usually offensive radio personality who is deliberately ignored by every major media outlet in America, is the sort of person you’d be better off knowing about.

Originally Michael Alan Weiner, he grew up in the Bronx. He currently lives in San Francisco, or as he sometimes refers to it, “San FranFreako.” But his thick, Italian New York accent, coupled with his love of Italian food and his certainty about everything he sets his mind to, make his roots as evident as ever.

It’s more like a New York Jewish accent, isn’t it?
Whatever the case, I can’t stand the guy. He is completely unbelievable and seems to be all show and no go.

yeah really, how does a man of Russian Jewish ancestry have a thick Italian New York accent????

must be confusing him with Andrew Dice Clay in the world of NY Jewish people who want to sound Italian.

In among the authors review was the little gem: "A lot of what Michael Savage has to say ought never to be said."

Really? Some things should never be said??? I'm no fan of Savage, his pandamaniacle diatribes and insults to his audience made me turn the station long ago, shortly after discovering his program. But I credit him this: He prides himself on saying those things "ought never to be said." Because that is what makes good radio overall.

The huge gripe, and I hope mistyped on his part - perhaps taboo to be said. Nothing should ever be prohibited from being said. Savage is the only one that dares to say it, which causes the persona non grata effect of the media.

I don’t think so - I think they’re mixing up Clay with Andrew Dice Claystein...:)

Agreed. I still think he is an a$$hole and his show sucks, but I defend his right to be one -- not only him but that idiot Don Imus.

The airwaves are public.

I agree with him on at least one thing, if my name was Weiner I’d change it.

I was a listener to Savage's show for about a year. But his incessant feigning of getting headaches and saying, "I don't want to talk about it anymore", only to talk about it for another two hours, started getting unbearable for me.

And then I started taking Economic courses in college and realized that the guy was just a straight populist with lots of anger, periods of incoherency/inconsistency, and very little liberty principles. I think that Bernie Goldberg was correct in listing Michael Savage in a recent book

A pretty fair take on the "underground" attraction of Michael's program from a writer who probably wouldn't agree with him about the weather. The fact that Savage is not a sophisticated, high-profile, media darling endears him the more to his audience. If he became otherwise, those with an acquired taste might feel betrayed.

I'd rather hear about his dog, Teddy, than which celebrities he hobnobbed with on the golf course over the weekend.

He’s a phony.

If liberalism could draw a huge radio audience, he’s be as left wing as Al Franken.

I used to be a big Savage Fan, but he start really going over the top sometimes.

Like it or not though, the last Talkers ratings had his audience at 8 million people with the longest TSL’s in that genre’.

I liked his support of the Haditha Marines, he raised a large amount of money for their defense.
