CLEARWATER, Fla. -- A 75-year-old woman was arrested at a Clearwater McDonald's drive-thru, because police say she wouldn't pull her car forward.
Authorities said Jean Merola, a grandmother of eight, was arrested for disorderly conduct after she refused an officer's orders to move her car while she waited for the coffee and fries she ordered at the drive-through window.
Merola said the McDonald's employees told her to wait there for her food.
Merola was handcuffed behind her back and put in the cruiser.
Another officer arrived and took her to the Pinellas County Jail .
Merola said she was searched, photographed and fingerprinted.
Jail records show she was released about 90 minutes later on her own recognizance.
Without justification...HELL, Yes!!!
And any cop who’d hassled Big Al’s grandma would have been immediately demoted or fired from the Chicago PD.
;-)
How often do you cut and paste the same post to different people?
Mc Donalds parking lot is their property. The cop did not have standing to do that unless the employees asked him too and if they did that they should have talked to her.
I did the same thing at a What-A-Burger but I had passed out from to much drinking.
“The video says she ordered salt-less french fries. They had to make a new batch for her.”
The horror, she should be boiled in oil for that travesty.
Who gets to decide if it is justified?
There does seem to be a fine line the cops seem to cross occationally.
This seems to be one of those times.
When several people post essentially the same derogatory remarks about police officer,s why not?
I guess my point is, if a cop is in a drive through, where you can’t get out, then he is blocking himself in. It’s a stupid thing for a cop to do. If they are on break then they shouldn’t be called for a mission. If they aren’t on break, they shouldn’t be in the drive through. The cop was at fault either way.
Well I’m glad the cops are finally dealing with the real threats to society. Why are we wasting taxpayers money on hunting murderers, drug runners and terrorists while there are these grandmother mafia types out there clogging up our drive-thru lanes! </sarc>
It was HER behavior that ensured her arrest. Her attitude was inappropriate as well. Sorry, this isn’t a case of an out of control LEO.
Thanks for that little bit of information. I had not thought about doing that ... I hate luke warm dried out fries!
(1) The McDonald's is private property.
(2) McDonald's staff therefore have a right to kick her off the property.
(3) If she refuses their invitation to leave, she is trespassing and liable to arrest, whether she is blocking a dispatched police vehicle or whether she is blocking my non-dispatched, non-police vehicle.
If granny doesn't like the drive-thru service, she can pull around to the parking lot and go inside and complain.
Otherwise, she needs to get some manners and get out of other people's way.
Nonsense - She should have been summarily executed SHE "GOT SNIPPY WITH A COP!"
That’s what I want to know. We have pulled forward to wait for our order and it is brought out to us by an employee. Sometimes they are really backed up and ask customers to do that. It’s not often so I don’t know what the big deal was.
“The horror, she should be boiled in oil for that travesty.”
With or without salt?
After refusing, (Grandma) Merola yelled at Parco for about 20 minutes, calling him a brat, a smart a, and a dumb, according to the affidavit.
Yup, she got what she deserved - a trip to jail. Refusing an officer’s orders, refusing to show ID, refusing to show registration, and then calling the cop names. Try that yourself the next time you get stopped for speeding...
“When several people post essentially the same derogatory remarks about police officer,s why not?”
hmm imagine that, free citizens exercising their free speech. Yep its time to get offended and make false accusations.
I guess you’d be happy if he had tasered or shot her. After all he was certainly justified since she resisted and was offensive and dared to fail in her boot licking.
