"Got a wheelbarrow to haul your Georges around for a loaf of bread?"

PUH-ease, that kind of hyperbole on a supposedly conservative website is getting really tired. You think ONE AND A HALF PERCENT INFLATION is bad?? This is NOTHING, it's STILL a pretty damned robust economy. You must not have been around for the CARTER era. I was. That was a full blown depression, Carter coined lovely words to make it more palatable like "recession", "stagflation" and my favorite, the "misery index". And WE didn't need "a wheelbarrow of Gorges" to buy a flippinf loaf of bread.

Yes, I was around for the Jimmuh peanut politics years and Billy Beer. My comment is based upon the token moves by W with the proposed BS tax rebates and the cut by the Feds.....however, that cut was needed for the overnight rate in the near term for the banks to not suffer any more huge losses.

It's still going to take time for the shakeout, a bear market 'easing' in, mortgage rates and credit card rates will hold steady, then the rates will go up hopefully soon to hold off the evil inflation thing to stop the slide on the US dollar.

C'mon that was no depression. Talking abut hyperbole. I lived through that time period also.

The inflation numbers were calculated differently during back then. They were reformulated in the early 1990s.

If we use the method from the 1970s, we have about 8% inflation, not 1.5%.

Ding, ding, ding - 0 for 3.

BTW, the misery index was popularly touted by Ronald Reagan, not Carter. It was a dig at Carter.

Tell me smartie pants.

What is included in the inflation number... and what’s left out of it?
