I would disagree with individual greatness decreasing with National greatness rising. The two are symbiotic. And so then maybe the inverse is true? That personal greatness declines as national greatness declines? I don't agree that if the US scaled back our role as Global Leader that we'd be a less great nation. I think the opposite would be true. I think if you look at our history we were a greater Nation when we meddled less in the other nations affairs. This idea that we would personally be diminished if the US had a more humble foreign policy may be at the root of most Freepers fear and loathing of Ron Paul or any politician who does but support our quarterbacking the world. The notion of an intrinsic relationship between National and personal greatness reminds me a bit of 1930's Fascism. In Fascism, the individual had no existence outside the State. Of the State, for the State. We of course have a tradition of individual Liberty and worth that does not derive from the State but from the creator.
