Romney Goes Casual

SWEETWATER, Fla.—A buzz went through the press corps when Mitt Romney showed up at a Cuban-American community center here on the outskirts of Miami this morning.

“What is he wearing?” one reporter asked.

Could it really be?

Yup. The normally buttoned down Mr. Romney, whose uniform on the trail is invariably a starched white shirt, navy blue suit and tie, occasionally interrupted by a button-down without a tie, or sweater with khakis, was wearing a guayabera.

Guayaberas, of course, are linen shirts popular in Latin America, traditional in Cuba with four pockets and two vertical pleats that legend has it first originated with farmers carrying guavas.

Mr. Romney referred to his tropical look when he took to the stage, telling the crowd of several hundred that his shirt had been given to him by a veteran of the Bay of Pigs invasion and he wore it in honor of survivors.

I wonder what the real Parley Baer, who died in 2002, would think of his name being associated with such an embarrassment.

Um .... no.
If you think this is the first time a politician dressed to suit his audience, you were born yesterday.

Thompson’s red truck. Same deal.

Romney was funny on Leno when he said that at night he would relax by taking off his dark suit, ... and putting on a light one.

... I felt he needed to get more casual, good time to do it.

“And you’re okay with that?”

Why not?!?

Are you giving Mitt order to stick to his suit and tie?

What, you’d rather he do a John Edwards pander by screwing the taxpayers?

Yes, Mitt Romney is conservative enough.

Mitt Romney is the most conservative person we can get in the White House for the next term.

Somehow I don't think he'd use pretentious language like "what pray tell"..... lol

I believe it was Dana Carvey who pointed out that he and his family were obviously created by mad German scientists.

Yes, Mitt Romney is conservative enough.

Depending on his audience at the moment.

I hate it when people prove my assertion that the 19th Amendment was a huge mistake.

OTOH, it may be the only thing one could say about Mittens with any assurance. He’s not my type; usually he looks like he should be riding a bicycle, wearing a backpack filled with BoM.

Mitt looks like he smells good!

McCain would need a walker for his inauguration--he'd be a lame duck! (pun intended)

You missed one - Like Reagan, Romney has changed his positions to more conservative ones.

The only difference is Reagan changed many years before he ran for president; Romney changed 2 days before.

Surely that's just a coincidence.

In general I find that men who criticize the appearance of a handsome man are just envious of the other’s guy’s good looks.

If you must criticize the man, criticize him for his policies, gentlemen; if you criticize him on grounds that he’s too good-looking, you just sound bitchy.
