So, is it best to cycle the carry ammo?

Inspect it frequently and rotate the first round, so you don't constantly bang the same cartridge against the ramp. All the cartridges should show the same amount of bullet exposed above the case mouth, discard any short rounds.

I also tend to leave my carry gun loaded all the time, but that's not an option for everybody.

Sound advice.

I will see to it - today. Its funny — even with all the training courses, reading, and talking to shooters, I somehow never came across that vital bit of info. Thanks again!

yup, what xsrdx said. the problem comes when you take the chambered round out at night/ end of shift, and put it back on the top of the mag. do that 50-100- or more times, and you can really hurt your self.
