Top Democrat: CNN "Accommodated" Party on South Carolina Debate Questions

Rep. James Clyburn of South Carolina, the number three Democrat in the House of Representatives, thanked CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer for 'accommodating' the party on questions asked of their presidential candidates at last week's debate in Myrtle Beach.

Blitzer did not dispute Clyburn's statement of collusion between CNN and the Democrats.

From the CNN transcript:

BLITZER: We spoke the last time just before the Democratic debate in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. You urged the candidates, in your word, to chill, especially the former president of the United States, Bill Clinton. You got a lot of mileage out of that. But they came out swinging, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, at that debate, accusations of supporting a slum lord, being on the corporate board of Wal-Mart. I don't think they necessarily listened to your advice. How did you react to that?

CLYBURN: Well, I was talking really to the surrogates, the ex- president included. I expected a lively debate. In fact, we asked you al(sic), and you all accommodated us very well making sure that questions got asked that would make for a lively debate to let the passion show. That's what helps to generate voters.

They had competing visions about what to do about our economy, what to do about health care. All of that is good. That's far beyond the bickering that took place earlier. And I'm glad to say that from what I've gathered in the last couple of days that has subsided significantly.

BLITZER: So is this what the bickering as you call it, is that what the South Carolina voters want to see with these three presidential candidates?....

It was very nice of Rep. Clyburn to let the cat out of the bag. I wonder if CNN will 'accommodate' the GOP on questions for tonight's debate at the Reagan library?

NO, but they’ll accomodate the Left again, with the plants that will sprout up from the floor.

Isn’t Clyburn the one that acknowledged the Democrat’s staking their future on the failure of the US in Iraq? He is a South Carolinian, so i’m not sure if he is being a patriot, like most of us here, or just a useful idiot.

Collusion is such an ugly word. I’m sure they much prefer the term, cooperation.

At the last Republican debate the moderator admitted on air they were taking fax questions from the campaigns of the Dem candidates.

Yes. Clyburn is getting in to the habit of occasionally speaking the truth. A bad career move for a 'Rat.

I think it was Tim Russert who spoke during the MSNBC debate about the messages he was getting from the ‘Rat candidates’ operatives at the last GOP debate.

Well, our entire nomination process is a fake and a fraud, so the fact that the debates are fake doesn’t surprise me.

Actually, there’s a degree of fraud and fakery in our election process that wouldn’t be tolerated in any other profession - except perhaps in Hollywood.

I think he probably meant that CNN accommodated South Carolina, not the Democratic Party.

The news media and the Democrats work hand-in-hand. When Dan Rather’s 60 Minutes producer Mary Mapes acquired the fabricated Bush Air Guard documents she immediately turned over copies to John Kerry campaign adviser—and former Clinton press secretary—Joe Lockart. Mapes maintained contact with Kerry’s people as the story was being produced. This was disclosed in the investigation CBS conducted after the document scandal.

If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and ... I call it a duck. Even if it isn’t particularly PC.

I don’t even think I might be wrong, in this particular case.

Brad, I hadn't heard that, thanks for letting me know. And yeah, Lockhart is about as Clintonoid as they come.

The one I wonder about is, how many Newsweek and Wa Po political writers have the 'Rats got on the string? I'm thinking of the time Jonathan Alter told the potential GOP delegates to the '96 convention, in August before the first primary, that the GOP just had to nominate Bob Dole if it wanted to salvage its credibility <hurl, puke> .... but at the same time, Dick Morris had developed info for the Clintons that Bob Dole was Slick's best matchup for the coming year. So.....was Alter in on that? Was he helping the Clintons "condition" potential Republican delegates and primary voters? My money says yes.
