I just wish Ronald Reagan would have woken up and pumped trillions of dollars in the old Soviet Union.

LOL!

Well, since Reagan facilitated the break-up of the old Soviet Union, giving whole nations the opportunity to escape the oppression of the USSR and switch to free-market economies, pumping trillions of dollars into their economy is effectively just what he did! ...and it's been a great thing.

He didn't mind the thought of the people of the USSR becoming wealthy, because wealthy people have more power against an oppressive and wealthy government.

The same is true of India and China.

Be careful not to confuse the government and the people. The people of China probably don't like the communist government much more than you do. Making them wealthier will only help to weaken their government's power over them.

Wealth, particularly widespread wealth, is a good thing.

That contortion flies about as far as a lead ballon pumped full of helium.  Reagan caused change.  After that change there were other changes.  Equating what is taking place with China with what took place with regard to the USSR, is a massive historical rewrite.

...and it's been a great thing.

Except that it had nothing to do with our current policies with China.

He didn't mind the thought of the people of the USSR becoming wealthy, because wealthy people have more power against an oppressive and wealthy government.

But wealth of people isn't what we're talking about.  The subject was infantile from the get go.  Nobody here is claiming that personal wealth or even national wealth is a problem.  That is a straw arguement.  The real issue is whether we prop up a totalitarian state that has expansionist tendencies, persecutes it's own people, and denies rights we take for granted.

The same is true of India and China.

It is true for India.  It is not true for China.  India doesn't abuse it's populace.  China does.  India is not a pariah state.  China is.

Be careful not to confuse the government and the people. The people of China probably don't like the communist government much more than you do. Making them wealthier will only help to weaken their government's power over them.

It sure has worked so far.  Tell the clergy in China how progressive trade trade has been.  I'm sure they'll eat it up.

Wealth, particularly widespread wealth, is a good thing.

Did you see anyone arguing otherwise?  We do not support trade with China that facilitates a growing threat against our nation, specifically the troops that will have to die putting it down.
