“The FairTax also would dramatically expand the tax base by making illegal aliens, criminals, pimps, prostitutes, drug dealers and visitors to this country subject to the FairTax.”
The moment we knowingly tax illegal aliens, is the moment we grant them amnesty. It would seem to be a show of approval. I know our legislators are that desperate for revenue (politicians life-blood), but are we?

Your thinking is 180 degrees backwards. You obviously aren't aware the income tax code encourages amnesty because it allows illegal aliens to have their own tax ID number to file income taxes. This procedure is tacit approval for illegals to earn an income in the U.S. and therefore only encourages them to violate our immigration laws. This became a point of contention yesterday in the Senate as the current "stimulus package" involving tax rebates would have included illegal aliens.
The Fair Tax will substantially reduce illegal's reason for staying in the U.S. since it will no longer encourage them to earn an income as the tax burden will shift from income to consumption. They will pay more in taxes with The Fair Tax than the income tax giving them more motivation to leave the country.

Are you serious? Give me a break, it does nothing of the sort. What it does is it makes people contribute to the cost of running the government whether legal or not. They still need to be sent back to their country of origin, but while they are here, make sure they are paying something.

Illegals pay taxes in this country every day: State sales taxes, Federal tax on gas, & on & on & on. Sorry, but taxes have NOTHING to do with the legal status of an alien.

Granting amnesty would be signing a bill granting amnesty.
It would be saying “So you want to stay here illegally? Now you’re paying taxes. Don’t like it? Screw you, pay me.”
That’s all it is.

Illegals already pay sales taxes now. . . Have we legitimized them b/c they pay taxes when they buy their kids some socks from wal mart?
I think you are dead wrong about this idea of de facto amnesty via the fair tax.

I think that is a stretch. We will not confer citizenship on visitors by taxing them, so why would we confer citizenship on illegal aliens by taxing them?
Under the Fair Tax, illegal aliens are treated exactly as visitors from another country.
