Do you have any data to back up your speculation?

Jim, I’ve been vilified by McCaniacs on this forum for saying this but McCain’s POW service is far from exemplary. There have been allegations of collaboration, receiving special treatment made by other POWs who were at the Hanoi Hilton with him. It’s true other POWs have backed him but there are eye witnesses who will come forward and “Swift Boat” McCain.
I agree with your logic and will continue to support Huckabee until someone better emerges.
Thank you for Free Republic.

Sorry, but no.
Voting for Huckabee means McCain would get the nomination. Besides that obvious point, Huckabee wants to close Gitmo and I don’t think he has the intellectual capacity to be POTUS.

Huckabees continued presence in the race will ensure that McCain is the nominee.
No, Huck pulls 9% more votes from McCain than Romney. See post #33.

The one element of your post that I agree with is that point two is ranked ahead of point three.
I think a brokered convention would be great. I would hope to see such a convention select Pete DuPont, or Virginia Postrel, or maybe P.J. O'Rourke. All of whom are about as likely to be selected as is Fred.

He is conservative. He's been painted as a liberal by the Romney people, but a lot of that wasn't true. See Factcheck.org's December write-ups on the falsehoods in Romney attacks on Huckabee.

Dang. That's a good one.... Yea I'm actually having a hard time refuting that one...but would a brokered convention bring back Fred or would the choices still be limited to McCain, Romney, and Huck.
If the choices are still limited a brokered I think puts McCain in as he as the 25 insider years to call in and make favors.

With all due respect, the Huckster’s views on immigration show that he is NOT pro-America. Unfortunately, none of our options have good immigration records.

"Number seven, if we can keep Huckabee in the race all the way through, "I think that here is where this idea falls apart- I think Huck is too broke to continue. I sort of had the same idea, using Ron Paul as "None of the Above" just to get a brokered convention. Paul is apparently running on Soro's money, so he's in till the end. We just have to make sure he dosen't win anything.

Congratulations...you have just endorsed the McCain/Huckabee ticket, because that is exactly what is going to happen if people follow your lead. Sorry, Jim ...I won’t follow you over that cliff, dear. I’m holding out for a Romney/Thompson ticket.
To: TexasNative2000
I agree about a vote for Huckabee is a vote FOR McCain. I used to be a Huckabee supporter, but now I woke up and smelled the coffee. The Wed. debate proved what a small man McCain is. Romney isn’t perfect, but he is our only chance to beat McGuiliani. Please don’t waste a vote on Paul and Huckabee. A brokered convention is doubtful because you have all the RINO’s dominating everything.

You can not compare Florida exit poll voters to the rest of the country.
To: Cedric
See Florida results, see other Southern state polls. That is a good chunk of “no votes” for Mitt Romney, more than enough to cause an issue. I wish we were better than that, but facts are facts.
Sad thing is i wanted mitt to take if for no other reason he was a bulwark against the inevitable, but we are going to be in the wilderness for a while.

At this point, a brokered convention does seem to be the most desirable outcome - a chance for the GOP to put forward a winning candidate - a governor, perhaps.
Unfortunately, the tactic of supporting Huck may simply throw the nomination to McCain.
This is one tough call - as a Canadian FReeper, I sincerely hope you Americans make the right decision!
