Your problem with me isn’t what Huckabee is or isn’t, it’s that he has shown even less capability of getting nominated than my candidate.
Even where Romney stopped campaigning against Huckabee, he couldn’t beat McCain. He couldn’t beat McCain in South Carolina, he abandoned Florida, he lost in Missouri.
If Huckabee had enough support to raise real money, and had been able to compete after Iowa, maybe he could be the frontrunner.
But he isn’t, he’s an also-ran who only can only win a small number of states and sometimes only because McCain lets him.
That is not a critique of your candidate on the issues, just an expression of the reality as reflected in the actual vote totals.
If the conservatives had jumped behind Huckabee after the VV summit, maybe he would have over time coalesced into the conservative choice. Probably not, because too many conservatives had grave doubts about him, not just on whether he was now speaking truthfully, but more importantly about his ability to handle the job of President.
Huck could show that he is the prettiest to be courted at the ball, and become the subject of fancy by the two leading men in contention.
This could be a quick page turner, or people will just get bored with the race, put this book down, tune out and just show up out of "duty and freedom" via voting booth come election day...just reading the last few pages to see how the story turns out.
