ROME, February 6, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Doctors from four different Roman universities have issued a joint declaration affirming the duty of doctors to rescue and care for infants born alive after an abortion attempt, even against the wishes of the mother.
The declaration, made by doctors at the obstetric clinics of La Sapienza, Tor Vergata, Campus Biomedico and Sacro Cuore, represent both the secular and religious sides of the Italian university system. The first two universities are public, and the second two are Catholic.
"An extremely premature newborn must be treated like any other person in danger, and assisted adequately," said Domenico Arduni, director of the Tor Vergata gynecological clinic.
Arduini added that this principle would hold even if the child had survived an abortion, and "even if the mother is not in agreement."
The four physicians issued the statement together during a meeting at Fatebenefratelli hospital in Rome last Saturday.
According to the Spanish publication El Pais, the doctors' declaration and the Vatican's recent campaign for a "moratorium" on abortion in Italy (which has now become a global campaign), "has fallen like a bomb among scientists and politicians".
Emma Bonino, the Italian Minister of European Policy, complained to El Pais that "the political class should not allow others to set their agenda." The Italian health minister, Livia Turco, told the publication that protecting the life of such children was "senseless cruelty." A prominent physician reportedly suggested that abortions be done by poisoning the baby with potassium chloride, thus ensuring his death before exiting the womb.
However, the ANSA news agency reports that the liberal bioethicist Cinzia Caporale has endorsed the physicians' declaration, stating that while she is in favor of allowing euthanasia for adults who want it, children who leave the womb alive should be cared for, even against the will of the parents. "I don't even consider their consent necessary if the fetus has survived an abortion," she said.
Exactly!

Read for yourself: http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=18647
WAKE UP ALL YOU IDIOTS WHO WILL ALLOW THIS MONSTER TO BECOME PRESIDENT BY EITHER VOTING FOR HIM OR NOT VOTING BECAUSE YOU DON’T LIKE MCCAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!
Makes sense, doesn’t Italy have the lowest birthrate in the world, something like 1.2? WAY below the replacement rate (2.1).
Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Isaiah 5:20
And the difference between that newborn and the same child 5 minutes prior to being born is?
There is no difference, and wagglebee has been a strong abortion opponent from day one. I know, I know, FReepers can answer for themselves.
“Duh, they aren’t HUMANS until they are actually born!”—liberal idiotic excuse for murdering innocent children.
Do you find that you get a lot of people to see things your way by calling them idiots?
As far as I am concerned, there is absolutely NO DIFFERENCE between a fertilized egg at the moment of conception, during any time in utero, or at any time from birth until the moment of natural death. The ABSOLUTE right to life is unambiguous, inviolate and inalienable.
Abortion Survivors Must be Given Care, Even Against Mother's Wishes
It should go without saying. Happily, these Italian doctors are taking a stand and saying it.
And there’s only one of the five viable (pardon the pun) presidential candidates that completely agrees with you (and me) on that, Huckabee.
See? It was more effective than my post. Good going Wagglebee.
I read the Head line about this and was stunned . Would we kill an infant just because a woman wanted sport sex, and carried it this far allowing this person to develop to functioning human and then kill it because it is an inconvenience? May the Lord have forgiveness on us all.
Correct. And it shows that the intention is to claim, not just a right to "terminate a pregnancy," but a right to a dead baby.
BTW, I'd be against interminable pregnancy. Most of them terminate beautifully at 9 months. :o)
