Bob Dole
If you work your way through the electoral college, state by state, assigning each state to McCain or Obama based on trends, then you see that at least 40 states are already in one camp or the other even before the general election campaign starts. The real battle will be over the remaining 10 states. So the number one consideration for the choice of Veep has got to be someone who can deliver a swing state; and it seems that the upper Midwest has a bunch of swing states clustered: Iowa, MN, Wisc, Missouri, and you can even add Ohio to the mix. This is why the smart choice would be that young-ish governor of Minn.
Wont vote for him no matter who he picks. Surely you guys know VP’s do nothing but attend State Funerals and play Unreal Tournament?
Tim Pawlenty. I think that is the guy. As I said in a previous post, the race in the electoral college will come down to about 5-8 states, and there is a cluster of states in the upper midwest that will probably be in play: MN, Iowa, Wisc, Missouri, maybe even Ohio. GOP needs every one of them in order to win the election; by my count, even before he works up a sweat, Obama can count on 249 electoral votes. So Pawlenty, about whom I know zero, may fit the bill. The key thing is that he has to DELIVER those states. What can you say about him?
In recent months he seems to have dove to the left. He endorsed Mccain and has been out campaigning against global warming. He is only about 47 years old and would not only make a great VP but CIC as well IMHO.
If Perry was the VP, TX might not go GOP.
