3 accused of attacking man [and then a law abiding armed citizen saved him]

Pittsfield Township police arrested three people accused of attacking a man in traffic after he earlier tried to intervene in a dispute.

The victim was outside Falsetta's Market at 2200 Pittsfield Blvd. at about 4 p.m. Wednesday when he saw a man loudly arguing with a woman and trying to push her into a van, said Detective Lt. Steve Heller.

The victim said he asked if everything was OK and told the woman she didn't have to get into the vehicle. He said the man told him to mind his own business, and they left in the van.

The victim went into a nearby store and called police before he left.

While stopped at a red light at Carpenter and Packard roads a few minutes later, the victim said the driver of the van confronted him and began yelling. He said he exited his vehicle and was punched in the face and knocked to the ground, Heller said.

Two women, including the woman he tried to help, got out of the van and began hitting and stomping the victim while he was on the ground, Heller said.

A passing motorist stopped his car, pulled a gun and demanded the trio stop beating the man, Heller said.

Police responded to several calls reporting a man holding people at gunpoint. Officers determined the man with a gun had a legitimate concealed weapons permit and was trying to help, Heller said.

Officers arrested an 18-year-old Ann Arbor man and two 19-year-old women. They were released pending charges.

The victim was not seriously injured.

‘Police responded to several calls reporting a man holding people at gunpoint. Officers determined the man with a gun had a legitimate concealed weapons permit and was trying to help, Heller said”

Good story and positive outcome. My only issue is its spreading the thought that we have to have a permit to have a firearm.

Unless it was concealed on his person he doesn’t need a permit. In Florida its perfectly legally to have a firearm in your glove box or other place not immediately accessible.

There. Fixed it.

I am pro-2nd amendment and applaud his courage and altruism. It’s a good thing, though, that the cops did not shoot first and ask questions later when responding to a report of a man holding people at gunpoint. You never know.

I would also like to applaud the victim in this incident. He saw what looked like a kidnapping or possible abuse and tried to stop it. Too bad it looks like the woman he was trying to help was an idiot.

For some people getting beaten up and kidnapped apparently is foreplay. She must have enjoyed it and wanted to share with others.

Don't know if they were "booked." Article says they were arrested and released.

All too true. But what I want to know is, were those bullets numbered and registered? /s

No loud shots fired, nothing to worry about here. I don’t usually get too excited until I see those orange flashes from a gun pointed in my direction.

Reminds me of the time I intervened in a drunken domestic dispute. The guy was slapping his girlfriend around, and had bloodied her nose. When I tried to get him to back off, they both jumped on me.

“...a legitimate concealed handgun permit...”

As opposed to an illegal or illegitimate one???

This almost skirts the edge of the dreaded “CCW Badge” discussion...Right???

I guess I am just never happy one way or another the way these stories are put onto paper these days...

;-)

Did the 3 assailants have a legitimate beating license?

Actually, let's think about that for a moment.

The fellow pulled his weapon and held the folks at gunpoint. A good result, because the punks held still. I'm glad he was armed, and that he interevened, and I'm glad he held the nice people for the cops.

Here's the question: how far was the fellow prepared to go, if one or more of the punks refused to cooperate? Would he have been justified in shooting if the punks began to run?

When I think about concealed carry, I think about that sort of thing. Are folks trained and prepared to think through the "what next" aspects of actually drawing their weapons?

I'm all for normal folks being armed. I really hope folks will take the responsibility to get that sort of training. But I suspect that most do not, and that's too bad.

***Police responded to several calls reporting a man holding people at gunpoint.***

Yet somebody getting beat doesn’t warrant a 911 call. Incredible

You don’t do it in public like that. A quiet alley at night is the best, simply because there’s less chance of somebody seeing it.

Some people are just weird and get turned on by staged abductions.

I have learned from certain neighbors years ago that in such a domestic “dispute” the woman thinks it is right that she get beat up or even killed by her husband or boyfriend and any outsider is interfering in a domestic expression of love and should be beaten up for that.

Very good questions to ask. The minute you move from concealed to not concealed you open up a can of worms especially in a situation like being described.
If someone had a gun or someone fired a gun you at least answer the question of equal force.
At least the cops didn’t create an issue.

Very interesting.

Two good Samaritans one armed and one not.

If the first had been armed, he would be in serious trouble, as the female he had attempted to help obviously would not have backed up his story.

Fortunately for the armed Samaritan, the unarmed one will back up his story, and he may only incur minor legal costs.

It is a pity, but for your own and your family’s protection, you must be very careful in your choice of strangers to protect.

He said he exited his vehicle and was punched in the face and knocked to the ground, Heller said.

Exiting the vehicle is normally a bad decision.
