/Yup! It was a mess. However, Bill and Co. did go into Apple labs during the meeting with Jobs and got what code they did. Unfortunately, for Bill, they did not get it all, which is why Windows in an ever-developing product. BTW, Jobs actually took the idea of a personal computer to Hewlett and Packard when he worked at HP. HP scoffed at the idea, and thus Apple was formed.

Um, no. Actually, MS was contracted with Apple to produce Word and Excel. As part of that contract, Apple provided MS with source code for the Mac OS. MS also lifted in toto the code for Quicktime...

I, sir, am pretty much a Federalist and frequently use the phrase “lawless” when describing the Federal government (so tha isn’t just whistling Dixie) ... and I can back up the charge too (I’m currently working on smoothing over a piece I call “There is no ‘General Welfare Clause’” to post here on these forums).

I use a Mac.

I use it because I can run insanely old programs on it right beside the new. I use it because it will tolerate hardware that even Apple says SHOULD crash it but won’t. I use it because it will tolerate everyday hiccups that will send a PC to its sick bed.

I use a Mac and I’m not a some upper crust snob, or a “liberal” and I’ve never had my teeth whitened.

I’m sorry, but I just felt that I had to defend my little friend’s honor there. –.^

Using third party RAM in a Mac does not void the warranty. Apple just will not warranty the RAM.

Why would I boot up Windows in native mode on an Apple? Just so I can spend more money for the pleasure? No mac-boys that I know of run Windows natively, they all use VMware Fusion or Parallels.

Windows native mode uses the FREE Boot Camp software that comes with Leopard. Fusion and Parallels can both use the same Windows partition that Boot Camp does.

We have had the beach ball of death come up three ties in the 4 month that we have owned our Mac and each time we have had to literally UNPLUG the sucker to get it to run again. Once we had to call Mac Tech Services because the whole thing crashed and would start up.

In seven years of owning and using OSX Macs, and the same amount of time administering several networks of OSX Macs, I have never had to "unplug" a Mac to get it to restart. Worst case scenario... with a kernal panic... hold in the power button for 10 seconds.

If it is application that has crashed, press CMD-OPT-ESC and force it to quit. Restart the App.

You description tends to make me think you really don't own an OSX Mac.

On a PC if you have a problem, which is rare unless you have a faulty piece of third party software, you just hit Control/Alt/Delete and everything gets fixed.

Sorry, missed this. You're kidding, right? Can any other PC user here back up this claim??

Its my experience that politically conservative Mac owners aren’t snobs. Apple sells snobbery because upper income liberals are snobby already. Its what they want to buy, like a designer couch or table. Conservatives want a better computer experience.

they state that 70% of Mac users were happy with their purchase, but this really means that 30% of the people that bought ... Mac computers were NOT happy with them.

Selective reporting on your part; isn't that what the main street media does?

• The video stated from the start that, according to the survey, PC users believe they are superior to Mac users. i.e. snobs

• Contrary to your 70% - 30% horse puckey, the survey states that Mac users as a group are far happier with their Mac purchases than PC purchasers are with theirs.

• Also stated is that Mac users pay for their music downloads, PC users tend not to, so they are thieves.

The survey did not say this, I did. You PC jihadists seem to be awfully insecure. Why else would you expend so much of your precious time propping up your egos by tearing down others? According to the survey, PC users are more likely to have "closed personalities", so it makes sense.

That’s true in the lib-arts, but not in the comp sci field. Legendary computer security expert Gene Spafford (prof at Purdue) gave a lecture on network security and was asked about his Mac use (this was 1999, when most were still using OS 8 or 9), and he said that while he preferred Unix for servers because of their power and scalability, he preferred Macs for the desktop for one reason...he thought Apple had a philosophy of excellence and intuitiveness when it came to the human-computer interaction. And I largely agree with that.

For computer pros, it’s not about style or even standing out. Its about what we think works best.

Vista was an attempt to emulate the Mac - see where it got us.

I never thought of it that way, but there are similarities. The most obvious being that both the Mac OS and Vista assume the user to be way too stupid to be allowed access to certain aspects of the Operating System.
