DAYTON, Ohio (AP) Spike Lee told a crowd at the University of Dayton to "do the right thing" in this year's presidential election.
"We are living in some very exciting times," Lee said Monday. "And the months leading up to the election in November will determine which way this country is going to go; forward or backward. It's up to you to do the right thing."
He said he supports Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination.
Dressed in a sweater, jeans and ball cap, Lee spoke of growing up in New York City, being a fairly average student at Morehouse College in Atlanta, and becoming a director.
"At first, I didn't know that people actually made movies," Lee said of his childhood. "We would go to the movies on the weekend and stay until our parents dragged us out.
"I didn't decide to become a filmmaker until I went to college. But I did realize that the richness of the African-American experience that I saw on the corner every day was not on the screen."
Last week, Lee was in Columbus to receive the $50,000 Wexner Prize that recognizes innovation, quality and integrity among artists.
Inside was, IMHO, boring & predictable. That story has been done many, many times.
And, a hint of government drivel? You're kidding, right? That was nothing more than a Bushes Fault mocumentary. Can you explain, why in God's name Sidney Portier was in that? What's his tie to Katrina?
In conclusion Lee stated...
< Insert Rush Limbaugh’s Obama ‘time for change’ spot here. >
I don’t know where he is. But where ever he is...he’s the fattest bastard there.
25th Hour wasn't bad.
She Hate Me is one of the absolute worst films I've ever seen. A real disappointment from every involved in the project except for maybe Terrence Blanchard.
Inside Man was quite enjoyable.
This is what passes for news? Now if the Spikemiester was working for Ron Paul, that would be news, but getting on the “Second Coming’s” bandwagon? I don’t think so.
I had him figured for a Huckabee man.

LOL. It’s a protest vote. Spike Lee was for Duncan Hunter; he realized once Thompson dropped after aiding McCain that the party has been captured for decades by a globalist conspiracy.
Glad he waited a day after GHWB endorsed McCain.
My adrenalin needed a rest.
Doin The Wrong Thing!
Titled "Spike Lee Hates Your Cracker Ass"
Talk about banality this is one the WSJs OpinionJournal would label bottom story of the day.
Given that Spike Lee is a bigot, this is unsurprising.
You could prop up a black axe murdering pedophile and a disappointing number of blacks would support him -— because he’s black.
I think Larry Sinclair’s “BJs and Crack” story gave Obama the street cred needed for Spike’s endorsement
In other news: sun rises in east, sets in west.
It is a genre exercise.
Some of the best films ever made have been genre exercises.
I would also add that Detective Frazier is a pretty original character - a real anti-hero, more morally ambiguous than Dirty Harry or Frank Bullitt or John McClane.
Hey I just noticed that.
I can't believe though I'm getting flak from some on this.
50 cent, fiddy cent supports clinton.
He thinks if obama gets elected, he will be assasinated.
