“Okay, so (assuming you are white) are you a bigot if you choose McCain, Huckabee or Clinton?
Alas, only white guys were running for the Republican nomination, so this doesn’t help here. (I am a ethnically Jewish guy of Sephardic (Portugal via Mexico) origin, BTW, not that it matters. I identify with no one; most all my “tribe” have be killed in a rather ruthless and efficient manner.)
“Are people really being biggoted if they choose someone they identify with?” Part I.
Let me first answer your question with a question. Would I be biggoted if I only choose fellow Jewish people to work for me, because I “identify with them”? Of course I would.
“Are people really being biggoted if they choose someone they identify with?” Part II
You can’t judge a single individual’s decision on a statistical basis -— you can, however, detect bias in groups.
Black democrats are voting overwhelmingly for Obama — 90%+/- -— vs. Clinton, who holds substanially similiar positions. Whites and other groups, in contrast, are breaking more-or-less 50/50 between Obama/Clinton. If blacks were voting on the issues, they would have a similiar split between Obama/Clinton as the other groups voting.
But they are not.
Obviously, something is going on in the black sub-group, and it sure appears to be discrimination.
Now, keep in mind, I am not picking on blacks only for doing this -— old people broke for McCain, Mormons broke for Romney, and evangelicals broke for Huckabee. Women (until recently) were breaking for Hillary.
“Is your spouse white? Are you a bigot because you didnt marry an Asian or Latina?”
Voting (and working) and marriage are (or should be) distinct issues, as there is a lot more interpersonal things going on. But, for the record, I married an Anglican — which, in fairness, is kind of like having a Jewish wife, but they let Anglicans join the country club.
Okay MeanWestTexan:
I understand your argument, but I don’t necessarily agree with them. Thank G-d we are Americans, where one can disagree without being disagreeable.
( Jews are sexy.....oops did I say that out loud?)
