Kosovo Serb died at U.S. embassy

BELGRADE -- Zoran Vujović, 21, has been identified as the victim in Thursday's fire at the U.S. embassy in Belgrade.

Vujović, whose family now resides in Novi Sad, was a Kosovo Serb, forced out of the province when he was 12 years old. His identity was determined through DNA analysis, a spokesman for a district court in Belgrade said.

The exact cause and circumstances of his death were not given, according to agencies' reports. Vujović's charred body was recovered from the embassy, which was vandalized and set on fire Thursday, after several hundred rioters attacked the building, while a mass peaceful rally was ongoing in Belgrade.

The post mortem, conducted at the Belgrade military clinic, VMA, took 12 hours Friday. But the identity could not be confirmed, since even the bones of the victim's arms and legs were completely burned, reports say.

He was first identified by his father, Milan Vujović, who recognized some of the personal belongings that were recovered, including his son's gold chain. The DNA analysis later confirmed this.

His parents reported Vujović missing late Thursday. On Friday, the victim's father was looking for his son in MUP detention facilities, thinking that he may have been detained during the unrest.

The Vujović family were expelled from Čaglavica, near Priština, in July 1999.

"From today onwards, Kosovo is proud, independent and free," said Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, a former KLA leader. "We never lost faith in the dream that one day we would stand among the free nations of the world, and today we do."

Naturally, humor or even light-heartedness is lost on you.

Yes, I’m a non-hyphenated American. That seems to surprise you. We’ve come a long way on FR.

George W. Bush has helped create yet another Muslim state. Nothing like continuing to be on the side of the “evildoers”....

Lovely.

It’s impossible to have a reasonable discussion with your version of patriotism when you end up calling me a Nazi.

Serbia and the rest of Europe need to help themselves, instead of damning the U.S. when we do and damning us when we don’t. That is my POV and has no relationship to your fascistic accusation.

Let's see...running into a building that was getting ready to be burned to the ground.

Hope the Serbs have their own version of the Darwin Awards.

I read his post to you.
He did NOT call you a Nazi.

I didn’t call you a NAZI. I said that if you aren’t willing to question your government you will end being used just like those patriotric German soldiers (who were not NAZIS) who ended up dying for Hitler.

My point was simply that you can’t always assume that your country is right.

It’s tough to stay humorous given some of our global agendas nowadays.

You said that Albanians have contributed nothing to U.S. culture compared to Serbians, so I mentioned the Albanian restaurant... thought it was funny.

I wouldn’t doubt it was a suicidal move. My cousin was captured and tortured by Bosnian Muslims for several months. He escaped and eventually found his way back home. He wouldn’t speak of what had happened... he wouldn’t really speak at all upon returning. Two weeks later he shot himself with his father’s gun. It’s easy for us to make fun of certain things, but when it’s in your own backyard the humor fades very quickly.

Hey, I was only clearing it up because you started accusing me of calling you a Nazi. So, since you had misunderstood what I was saying the first time I wanted to make sure that you understood my point the second time.

My apologies. I’m really not here to argue, I’m here to share what I know and learn what I don’t. Assuming you are a conservative I think that, upon learning more about what really happened in Kosovo, you may change your mind about which side America should have been on.

Two of the hijackers were veterans of the mujahadeen that fought against the Serbs in Bosnia. Truth hurts, they managed to help kill only 3000 American’s, they killed many more Serbs than that.

Ideally, it should have worked out that Kosovo would remain a part of the Serbia.

Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way - because of the political ineptitude of Serbia. So it's better to have NATO effectively in control of Kosovo.

I do appreciate the friendship between the U.S. and Serbia in the past, and hope it will possible again in the future.

I don’t understand the cloud of confusion that is over this issue. Was Clinton trying to obfuscate what we were doing over there? Wasn’t Madeline Albright Albanian or something?

Would someone please explain to me what was happening there?

Let me try and help with an analogy.

Imagine yourself as an Israeli. And, then ask yourself how would you feel if Jerusalem was no longer part of your country (Israel)?...i.e. it became an independent country.

Would that bother you at all?

"Two of the hijackers were veterans of the mujahadeen that fought against the Serbs in Bosnia. Truth hurts, they managed to help kill only 3000 American’s, they killed many more Serbs than that."

You know that's the damndest thing. Serbs have been in the US for the last hundred plus years, with NO problems in the US. If we get our names in the paper, it's for something positive -- an award, a promotion, a humanitarian effort, or excelling at some sport or in the entertainment field.

Bosnian Muslims are here from the last 15 years and you get the Utah Shopping Mall Massacre. Albanian Muslims show up in 1980's you get the Albanian Mafia threatening Giuliani's life, the Fort Dix 6 attack on the NJ military base, the lunatic shooting up a coffee shop and then killing himself.

And yet Serbs are supposed to be "the violent ones" and Bosnian & Albanian Muslims, "the innocent victims". And Americans believe their paid PR, and not the example that Serbs have shown as good Americans?
