Israel will not be recognising Kosovo’s independence in the next few weeks, out of concern for the implications that recognition might have both on negotiations with the Palestinians and relations with Russia.
Israel’s main Western allies — the United States, Britain, France and Germany — all rushed to accept Kosovo’s independence following the announcement by the Kosovar government on Sunday. But Israel is being reticent, despite Foreign Ministry officials and politicians privately voicing a general sympathy towards the Kosovar cause.
One of the main reasons is that Israel is anxious not to encourage a precedent whereby the populations of disputed regions act unilaterally in such a fashion.
On Wednesday, Yasser Abed Rabbo, senior adviser to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, told Reuters that if the current negotiations “wouldn’t proceed towards ending settlement-building and a serious and continuing negotiation, we will have to take the step and declare independence unilaterally”. ... An additional concern is the welfare of the Russian community. Despite still high levels of antisemitism, Israeli diplomats and local leaders have praised Mr Putin for fighting antisemitism.
Dmitry Medvedev, Mr Putin’s handpicked successor expected to win elections next month, is also thought to be close to the community, and visited the headquarters of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Moscow three days before announcing his candidacy.
Some of nationalist parties are claiming that Mr Medvedev is Jewish and disloyal to the Russian people. “This is the worst possible time to draw attention with a new dispute,” said a senior figure in the community in Moscow, “both for Israel and for Russian Jews.”

That’s a laugher. The best thing that could happen to Israel is the Palestinians unilaterally declare independence.
The number one reason the Palestinians have never done this basic element of statehood is that then they will have to declare what borderlines they claim.
A country where the unemployment rate is 80% is not independent of anything.
I guess you never became aware of the final UN report about Kosovo. There was no genocide.
I am aware, but regardless of the final death toll figures the idea of a Serbian-led genocide is still firmly entrenched in the public consciousness.
1. With US, US supports Israels first-line enemies, the Arabs and US is back-stabbed Serbs and will drop pants for oil.
2. With Russia that do not support direct Arab claims on Israel soil, and is able to control Iran more than US is.
There is no choice for Israel, the result is obvious, maybe not richeus, nor honorable, but obvious...
Both Serbia and Israel have no options but to ally or at least be close to Russia. Not cause we like Russia or prefer Russia over US, but simply, there is no alternative, and future will bring only more US appeasement to Arabs and within 10 years open US-Islamic alliance....

The proper postition for Israel to take, the proper postition for the US, but at this point, Israel's actions are essentially meaningless, Europe has their Islamic state, perhaps one with a greater emphasis for exporting criminality than jihad, but those things change. This was alway's Europes problem, we shold never have been involved.

But Bill Clinton left office more than 7 years ago and George Bush has pursued the same insane "short-sighted policy" that whole time.
To make it even worse he encouraged the Kosovo muslims to secede and let it be known that the USA would recognize an independent Islamic Kosovo.

The Kosovar muslims, with US encouragement, support and help, have already killed about 200,000 Christian Serbs - men, women and children.
But there are still some left alive in Kosovo and they are at the mercy of the muslims.
Muslim mercy - there is an oxymoron if ever there was one.
What kind of odds do these Serbs have for a long life unless someone interferes to protect them?
I do hope the Russians move in to hold back the muslims.

We ought to just stay the hell out of it. The Serbs have spent the last 8 centuries trying to fend of the Ottomans, the last thing I would want is to give away a chunk of country to the Muslims. What do we get out of supporting a breakaway Muslim country with 60% unemploymnet and no natural resources? Good will in the Islamic world....hahahaha!
