Satellite strike struck diplomacy, too
AP via Yahoo ^ | Sun Feb 24, 2:08 PM ET | CHARLES J. HANLEY, AP Special Correspondent

In last week's space spectacular, a U.S. missile did more than turn a dead satellite into bits of space scrap. It also blew another hole in hopes that the world's nations could forge a treaty making outer space a weapons-free realm, analysts say.

Wednesday's orbiter shootdown by a U.S. Navy missile came just eight days after Russia and China, at the U.N. Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, submitted a draft treaty to ban weapons from space.

Making space weapons-free assures rapid dominance to whomever cheats. They’ll control the highest of high-grounds.

Exactly! It was the timing of Russia and China because they week DAMN KNOW that we could take out the sat with our eyes closed.

Screw what the UN thinks. What was it...23 Un resolutions on Saddam Hussein and he still got to play around? The most irrelevant and corrupt organization on earth should just look at themselves and smell their own shiite.

The peaceniks want outer space to remain a peaceful, weapons free zone through which nuclear weapons may transit on the way to our cities. As long as there are ICBMs, there are OFFENSIVE WEAPONS IN SPACE.

Best thing we could have done...show the planet just how accurate those missiles are. It was a proud moment, not one where we apologize for being Americans with a good aim.

These people are complete idiots that think Russia and China would ever willingly abide such an agreement.

Oh, (sniff) we Americans are the bane of the earth (sniff).

If only the Chinese would just bomb us into the stone age (sniff, sniff)...

Russia and China only submitted that draft treaty because they knew we were going to turn the dead satellite into bits of space scrap.

Logic would dictate that something had to be done about it before it crashed, we handled it.

That we hit it, and did so with a Standard-3, since they know we have literally thousands of standard 3 launch tubes in our surface navy. Including single ships with 96 of the things. It scares the beejesus out of them - 'cept, there wasn't any in them to start with.

I haven’t heard the lame stream media mention that Reagan’s Star Wars program is proven a success and the left was once again wrong as sin.

Agreed! Walk softly but carry a BFH. Don’t like what we do?? Tough Sh*t. Deal with it or do something about it.

Russia and China, at the U.N. Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, submitted a draft treaty to ban weapons from space.

Q: Why would they do that?
A: They can't do what we can.

Mostly true. China shot down a stationary satellite, which is no easy task, but what the US Navy did was likened to shooting a moving bullet with a bullet.

When exactly was the collective decision made that space should be weapons free? Why is this automatically assumed to be a wonderful thing?

I posted my comment before reading yours. Seems if two people have the same first thought, there’s probably something to it.

1 The USA poses absolutely zero offensive threat against either China or Russia.

2 China deliberately blew apart a satellite in a test of a space weapon.

3 Why would any sane person listen to their complaints?

Slight correction - we currently have 22 operational CGNs, each with 122 launch tubes that can carry these, plus 56 DDGs each with 90 launch tubes. The Japanese also have 4 of those DDGs again with 90 tubes each, and have successfully tested a standard 3 shot from them. We also have 4 additional CGNs, slightly older, drydocked, with 88 tubes apiece.

Combined, that is over 8000 launchers. Now, we use those for air defense missiles, tomahawks for land attack, anti-ship missiles, etc, and of the standard missiles carried, most these days are standard 2 for high altitude fleet air defense. But the standard 3 is based on those, and if we really wanted them we could fit out half the fleet with the things, easily. It is just money at this point, the tech is there and proven.

And people said SDI would never work. Ha.

Because AP and the MSM refuse to acknowledge what America stands for. In their view, and in the view of the other anti-American leftists, America is a bully nation which only seeks to hold power so it can steal resources from the world’s supply.

These people resolutely deny that America stands for peace and freedom and believe that America is the moral equivalent - or less - of any other country, such as Iran or North Korea.

You’re right.
Didn’t China recently blow up a satellite in space. I seem to remember it was only the U.S. that complained about that.
