Any law abiding citizen of the United States of America should be able to own firearms (provided they do not have any convictions for a violent crime).

I would suggest that a man who is too dangerous to be allowed to own a gun, is too dangerous to be loose on the streets. If we're saying that allowing Joe to own a gun would present a risk to the community, wouldn't the community be served by Joes continued absence?

Possibly. However, our system of justice does permit people to be released from prison via the parole system. Are you suggesting we should eliminate this system?
