80th Oscars a Dud, Preliminary Ratings Show 14 Percent Lower Than Least-Watched Ceremony

LOS ANGELES — The Oscars were a ratings dud. More so than usual, even.

Preliminary ratings for the 80th annual Academy Awards telecast were 14 percent lower than the least-watched ceremony ever, according to Nielsen Media Research.

Nielsen said Monday that overnight ratings were also 21 percent lower than last year, when "The Departed" was named best picture.

The least-watched Oscars ceremony ever was in 2003, when there were 33 million viewers.

Nielsen has no estimate yet on how many people watched Sunday night, but based on ratings from the nation's biggest markets, the Oscars will be hard-pressed to avoid an ignominious record.

Gee, what a shock. America’s not interested in this self-congratulatory circle jerk? Whodda thunk it!

None of the nominated movies were anything the public has shown a desire to see, so why watch what was otherwise a parade of little-known foreigners, weirdos and malcontents? I mean, what’s up with the floppy hairdo and matching earrings on Daniel Day Lewis? He looks like the world’s ugliest cross-dressing great aunt.

I didn't even know it was on, until I got online this morning.

Americans have apparently lost their taste for uplifting, feel-good movies like Atonement, No Country For Old Men, There Will Be Blood and Michael Clayton.

Which is terrible for me because I just got greenlit on a project about an unemployed loner who spends all day in his apartment on the phone trying to contact an ex-girlfriend, before he finally gives up and eats a pound of Zoloft.

Working title: Democratic Underground.

The Oscars is an awful program which only exists to create interest in mostly unpopular movies.

To say it’s boring is an understatement, and if I hear “Who are you wearing” one more time I’ll scream.

They showed him on the news last night, and I think you’ve captured the moment quite accurately. Libtard is a sickness, no doubt about it.

Could careless about junkies in Hollyweird giving themselves award after award. Perhaps if there was not some kind of award show every month, then it might get a little more attention. Nevertheless, I don’t care to be lectured by junkies that try to impress me pretending they care so much.

Hollywood will now double their efforts in making Class A movies. Juno 2 will come out next year and this one will be about a 13 year old pregnant with twins. /s

I really do not care who they give their awards to. Once in awhile a movie will interest me and I will think it deserves an award. Rarely would I choose the same movies they choose. I’m not even interested in seeing many of those films, let alone following along to see if they win awards. The actors have no problem insulting everything I value. Why do I care if their peers like their performances or not? Hollywood loves itself. That’s not interesting news.

My wife had it on. I overheard some deployed, active members of the military reading the names of nominees. Not surprisingly the winner of that category was a movie that pushed the cause of gay rights.

The very next category was won by a movie that was sympathetic to militant Islamic POWs - effectively saying how evil the military and administration are.

I wonder if the troops that agreed to present those nominees even realized how they were being used.

If the ratings continue to slide they will go the route of the Miss America show and get knocked off a major network. Or maybe they will have to change the procedure so now viewers can vote, like with American Idol. If we are lucky though, maybe they will just stop airing the show altogether!

The fools never realized how they were showing up all the foreign weidos, and their simpleminedness when they compared them to the outtakes from 40-50 years ago with Doris Day, Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Danny Kaye etc when the oscars displayed real class.
