A scram is an emergency shut-down, isn’t it? They don’t schedule those....I don’t think, anyway.

Yes a SCRAM is an emergency shutdown, either automatic or man made. From what I just heard both reactors scrammed, and are not in power supplying mode. They are in a holding mode, but it will take a few hours to bring them back up to power.

“Scram” is the term used to describe the ‘safe’ shutdown of the Reactor as the control rods are plunged into the reactor core....the rest of the plant then must shut down on its own good time...the turbine generator will spin ‘til the steam generators no longer produce steam....etc, etc. It’s not instantaneous, tho’ it can be if the relief valves are used instead, which will wake up anyone within 5-10 miles of the plant.
